Grant for small businesses claiming business rate relief?

Has anyone claimed for this yet?

DH has a small business but is a sole trader and self employed - he’s not a Limited company. He has an employee and a business premises and claims small business rate relief. The grant means he can cover all overheads, including making up the 20% wage for his employee, for 4 ish months

He has tried to claim the £10k grant that is available to businesses that claim small business rate relief through a form on our local council’s website, however, they are asking for his Companies House registration number and won’t let him proceed completing the form without the number.

Spoke to our accountant who has told us that it is available to all small businesses, regardless of whether they are sole trader or Ltd company as long as they are registered for business rates and receive small business rate relief.

I rang the council today for a bit of clarity and they say needs to be a limited company so I’m a bit confused now

Nothing I’ve read online suggests that it is for Ltd companies only - just that they must have a premises and claim small business rate relief

Just wondered if anyone had successfully applied for it and what the circumstances were

Thank you!

Councils were only notified of this the other day too and it is an administrative nightmare. Suddenly we are expected to pay around 1500 businesses and we don’t know the facts yet. We have to be careful of fraud too. Just give your local council time to design the online firms and get procedures in place. Remember councils are having to remote work and staff are off sick or being redeployed to assist on high profile services such as homelessness.
