On the government link from the phone message , no mention of being able to do the out for daily exercise????
It in the papers etc at people flouting rules left right and centre.
Police now have powers....

I think there may be tighter restrictions to come?

I think its a good thing as some people still aren't listening although the majority are.

I agree strawberry builder's being some of them and they have no protection or space between them. They are forced to work the government needs to step in

joystir59 · 26/03/2020 13:04

I'm a cleaner so not a key worker, directly, but I work at the town hall which is still providing key services, so I'm indirectly a key worker, and there are many others like me who are supporting essential services

Persipan · 26/03/2020 13:10

The link in the government text does include exercise, you just have to click through to the detail.

People's jobs do not currently have to be 'essential' for them to go to work; the current wording has to do with it being absolutely impossible to do the work from home, not with what the work itself is.

I make no comment on whether those things will or should change, but that's what's in place now.

ittakes2 · 26/03/2020 13:11

I think the government will put a total lock down similar to other counties from this weekend.

AvocadoPrime · 26/03/2020 13:16

In a sense there should be. My partner is still working. Non-essential job that cannot be done from home. Him and alot of his colleagues afraid to work but if they go home they wont get paid.

Zorayda · 26/03/2020 13:20

I'm expecting curfews soon

adiposegirl2 · 26/03/2020 13:24

Please read the coronavirus act 2020.

Yes it has recieved royal accent

mynameiscalypso · 26/03/2020 13:25

Surely it depends on the numbers and NHS capacity? The modelling assumes a degree of non-compliance and non-essential workers (eg builders) still working. If those assumptions are correct and it keeps the number of infections to a level which the NHS can cope with, I think the government will be reluctant to put in further restrictions because they become counter productive.

bananaskinsnomnom · 26/03/2020 13:26

I’m wondering if after this weekend more clamps come in. This will be a test - on Friday last week, the advice was largely ignored (I feel that a good majority were starting to follow and not flock to socialise but the amount who did was still way to high) - if the weathers good, it will be interesting to see how this weekend goes.
If it’s still largely ignored the protocol will become much more strict.

Personally, where I live I haven’t left the house now for 48 hours. Have no reason to until next week for one day for work. There’s normally people and traffic going back and forth and the place is dead. Our supermarkets now have a capacity limit and people who I know who have been have said they are much quieter now as is most of the town. It is a working day though. We will see.

hardboiledeggs · 26/03/2020 13:28

I'm hoping so as too many people are not taking this seriously. It wont work unless EVERYONE complies. The UK can't be trusted to follow the rules set sadly.

MozFan · 26/03/2020 13:31

I hope not as we don’t have a garden and having a walk and fresh air once a day is saving mine and my my toddler’s sanity.

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/03/2020 13:33

I think people are doing pretty well at sticking to the rules - I’m in east central London and haven’t seen anyone out in a group larger than two except for a trio of teenage boys yesterday morning. I’ve been running every day and other runners have also only been solo or in pairs and nobody sitting on park benches or the grass. Fingers crossed people are getting the message and we won’t need tighter restrictions.

DontCallMeShitley · 26/03/2020 13:40

I would be sad to be stuck here with the hell of noise from all sides and unable to go for a walk in the busy traffic to get some peace and quiet, but I would much rather have a lock down that stops the idiots from being let out.

Young ones seem to think they are invincible, only ones I have seen getting up close to others are young, including the one that refused to move off the pavement even though I was moving into someone's drive to get away from her. The groups of girls hanging about outside the supermarket blocking everyone from getting out, the young lad almost on top of the people in front of him in the self service queue even though everyone else was leaving gaps. They need to take those things out of their ears and read the news that is on the phones they are glued to and consider others.

ssd · 26/03/2020 13:51

I don't know anyone not taking this seriously. I know myself and fellow workers who worked in retail and have been moved over to work in the retailers supermarket are terrified. We don't want to be there but have no choice.

ssd · 26/03/2020 13:54

@DontCallMeShitley, that's ageist. My young adults are taking this very seriously as is all of their friends.

ilovecakeandwine · 26/03/2020 13:59

I think the majority are taking it seriously, the odd person maybe but most are .
I believe the death rate has dropped in the uk so it's good news .
I'm not sure why people feel the need to constantly speculate what's happening next .

DontCallMeShitley · 26/03/2020 14:09

@ssd It is not ageist, it is what I have experienced. They are so used to looking down that they have no idea what is going on around them.

People with small children cross the road, older people cross the road. The younger ones don't bother, they just keep going.

I have not seen any young ones actually looking where they are going yet because they all look at their phones as they walk.

Not ageist, it is a fact.

Ninkanink · 26/03/2020 14:10

Probably, given the absolutely ridiculous behaviours of a sizeable demographic.

cologne4711 · 26/03/2020 14:16

I have not seen any young ones actually looking where they are going yet because they all look at their phones as they walk

That's true enough. And if they've all got their mobiles with them and anyone can be bothered/has the resources to check mobile data, they'll soon find people who are sticking too close to each other for too long.

Oldhaggard · 26/03/2020 14:17

If further restrictions come, they need to be aimed at the right people. The village I live in is largely elderly, and many don't seem to be taking it seriously or following guidelines. My neighbor is a prime example -
"Got to take the dog out!"
Yes, you do but not the 18 times a day you normally do! I've offered to give a good walk once a day with mine but no, they're still out every few hours trotting down the street.

Offered several neighbors pick up of essentials when I go
"No thanks, we're going out to enjoy the sunshine"

Kids still out playing on the street, building ramps and God knows what out of stuff lying around which others then need to move. Parents no where to be seen.

Friends in construction are being told to go to work, unless it's an essential building needed now, surely it's not an essential job?

People going for their daily exercise and standing around in groups chatting.

Living rurally I think people think it won't get this far - but it already has, confirmed cases locally.

I have family members in the NHS, on wards and in hospitals that are nursing CV patients, good friends in care and retail that are actually doing essential jobs, and whether irrationally or not, it pisses me off that people are treating it all like a public holiday.

Just fucking stay at home unless you need food, medicine or essentials. Go for your daily exercise/dog walk but stop congregating at the end of the road with 10 cronies for a bloody chat!

I'm sick of hearing how hard it is for people who have entertainment and food at home, to stay in in 'this lovely weather' when there's people who have neither that are doing just that.

I'm sick of stories about youths congregating outside shops and coughing over people thinking it's funny.

I'm sick of stories about NHS badges being stolen so people can get the services set aside for them. An ambulance robbed of it's ppe - presumably to sell.

I'm sick of retail workers being abused - one pharmacy worker spat on when someone had to wait for methodone.

Now is the time this disgraceful behaviour needs to be dealt with firmly and swiftly and leave people in no doubt that it's unacceptable.

cologne4711 · 26/03/2020 14:17

Has a petition started for an even stricter lockdown yet? Some people aren't happy unless they're trying to take every bit of fun out of life for toher people.

There is zero risk attached to one person (or a couple from the same family/household) going out for a walk or run together and staying away from others.

Deal with those who flout the rules and leave the rest of us to get on with our lives within the confines of the current rules. It's bad enough people are posting about not getting babies vaccinated or getting essential dental care. The balance on this has gone far to far already.

redsky21 · 26/03/2020 14:18

@ilovecakeandwine the uk death rate hasn't dropped, some of the deaths weren't reported in time. It us expected that there will be a large rise today, to account for the missed cases from yesterday.

ilovecakeandwine · 26/03/2020 14:50

Well I'm sorry I read it somewhere this morning. I'm trying to be positive just drag me down why don't you.
