Reasons to be cheerful - part 1

There is so much shit going on in the world at the moment I’m trying to find little things to be positive about each day. Aside from the fact we are able to WFH and be together, today I am happy that:

I’ve spoken to more neighbours in the last few days (whilst staying far away!) than ever. People seem to be friendlier and there is a spirit of “we’re in this together”
Noticing how clear the sky is (surely because there are no planes flying over like usual?) or am I imagining it?
The magnolia blossom is out on the tree - it looks beautiful
I’m going to have a ham salad with a boiled egg in a minute - it’s the last egg and I plan to savour it.

Anyone else want to join in?

The sky is so blue today. So clear and the air feels fresher, it’s lovely and quiet as well. It’s pretty noisy here usually as we live by several busy roads but I really noticed this morning how quiet it was with less traffic about.

I'd like to join in but can't think of anything. Am pissed off with my employer who has now told me if I don't work in a supermarket I won't get paid. I think working in a supermarket is the last thing a 50 plus Yr old should be doing right now.

I can see the bottom of my laundry basket for the first time in months - it's the combination of the beautiful drying weather and the fact that we are all lounging round in scruffy clothes. Smile

ssd - I’m sorry, that is shit

starling - that must be a small victory Grin I’m trying to ration the washing to essential items only as I’m running out of washing tabs!

I've been home all day every day which means I've had the chance to wash things and get them all out and drying outside including my sofa cushions using a lovely smelling fabric softener ( pregnant , nesting and literally nothing else to do Grin)

I've spent so much time doing activities with DS (2) that we would never usually have time to do. Painting , playing with mud, gardening etc.

I'm appreciating being outside a lot more on our daily walk and can't wait to spend more time outside when this is all over.

I haven't driven my car in 5 days and realising how much I drive so will definitely make a conscious effort to cut back in future.

I've spent time doing make up and hair I wouldn't usually and taking the extra time to feel a little bit glam everyday is really perking me up.

  1. I have signed up to some free courses on udemy. I love learning new things and it is a relief to have something to do on the Internet that isn't the doom and gloom of social media.
  2. I can hear birds. They are normally drowned out by the noise of traffic but on walks now I can hear so much of their music. Beautiful.
  3. I have my health and lots of coping mechanisms to keep me cheerful, like hypnosis and positive self talk. It really works if you choose to let it.

I've just had a plus, ds offered to walk to the shops, first time ever Grin

samlh · 26/03/2020 13:29

Working from home is giving me the chance to spend time with my new kitten.
My workload doesn't stretch to a full 8 hours so I have managed to get on top of my washing and ironing instead of procrastinating and doing it all on a saturday / sunday
I am planting wildflower seeds in my very small back garden to encourage bees and insects (I didn't have the time to tend to anything plant based last year)
I am eating better as i am not snacking needlessly through boredom
I am positioned in a good spot to see my bird table through the window
I also have time in the day to facetime my brother who lives in Australia rather than having to wait until the weekend because of the time difference :)

It's my 30th birthday today. I'm sat outside in my garden in the sunshine, eating my lunch whilst dd has a nap. I've gained a lot of perspective, enjoying the simple things in life and getting on better with DH.

I agree.

Yes, my ds is the same - he’s begging to go to the shop, unfortunately for him we don’t need anything for another week or so and I won’t allow it until then!

Working from home is giving me the chance to spend time with my new kitten

Aw - can you upload a photo?

getting on better with DH - me too funnily enough - it’s like there’s no point sweating the small stuff any more!

  1. I don’t have to was my hair as often or wear makeup!
  2. Spending actual time with the kids rather than ferrying them between activities.
  3. Spending time with my husband who usually works long hours.
  4. The weather at the moment is wonderful.
Sosososotired · 26/03/2020 14:13

There is a positive mental health thread running on here
I am enjoying not rushing in the morning for school. Weirdly we have been out by 8-830 every morning to do our “birdwatching” walk which is earlier than we’d be out anyway!
Not feeling the urge to do things.
The small stuff no longer matters

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/03/2020 20:53

OMG I want that kitten!!!
