Is getting a takeout safe?

So, takeout places are still open for deliveries only. There's been a bit of a drive locally to encourage people to use them to support the businesses. A cursory Google suggests that there's no evidence that coronavirus can be caught from food, and says that as long as you wash your hands between touching the container and touching the food, you should be fine.

But. I'm a little bit on the risk-averse side of life. Would you order in? I'm thinking potentially pizza.

We've had takeaway a few times since the pandemic was declared and will continue to do so. It is a risk - same as anything you bring onto your home. But if you're careful and you make sure you're ordering from somewhere with a good hygiene rating then for me it's worth the minor risk to keep businesses going (and obviously cause we enjoy takeaway). We do make sure to do everything contactless though to minimise risk to the delivery driver.

I haven't been getting take away as severely anxious someone will cough on my food. But I suffer severe anxiety as have severe mental illnesses.

Not worth the risk for me. But understand that it’s absolutely allowed and encouraged by the at the moment. Would like to support them, just don’t feel comfortable doing so.

Currently the evidence suggests it doesn't spread through food.

But that is why you want to make sure you're ordering from somewhere with a good hygiene rating. Even if you think back to pre Coronavirus, there are still plenty of other bugs around that I don't want to be given from a takeaway. Anyone with a good level of hygiene shouldn't be coughing, sneezing or do anything else into food. Likewise they should be washing their hands thoroughly after handling raw meat and going to the bathroom etc.

I wouldnt personally. My fear would be someone who cooked or packaged it possible having CV and not knowing yet. I am a worrier though and have been going as far as wiping antibacterial on all food packaging. Might be extreme but it makes me feel slightly more relaxed

Thanks guys. I've gone for it. 5 star rating for food hygiene.

Safe for who? You or the people who are making the food and delivering it? I'd think carefully about how much you need a take out as you are asking people to risk their health for the sake of what for most people a treat.

Well, it's ordered now sun. FWIW, under social distancing rules, they'll be calling when they get here, then we have to instruct them where to leave it, then they leave before we go outside to get it. So they won't come into contact with us at all.
