We went for a walk and now I can’t stop worrying

We went for a walk to get some exercise and food from the corner shop to keep us going. Tried our best to avoid people but there were a few moments where we were definitely less than 6ft away from someone (like paying for the food, passing someone walking the other way on the narrow street, a few tight moments in the shopping aisles).

I wasn’t worried at first but now I feel so angry at myself for us going out. We’ve stayed in since the 13th of March (purely out of anxiety, no symptoms, not a high risk group) and now I feel like I’ve exposed us.

How do people cope with this feeling?! Or have I lost the plot and gone OTT?

People are the most contagious when they are symptomatic. Hopefully now most people who have symptoms are staying home - either because they are following the advice to do so or because they happen to feel too unwell to go out anyway. Walking past someone is very unlikely to give you the virus. The social distancing advice has to be the way it is because otherwise people would not understand it and would interpret it however they like.

Most people come in to contact with dozens of people over a week, or hundreds if you count walking past people on the street. So that they would on average pass it to 2-4 others isn't many really.

Note I am not saying this is no big deal, obviously it's a massive deal and we should follow the rules. But it's far from step outside the door and your whole town falls down dead instantly.

There's being sensible and there's being batshit. And claiming someone leaving their house for the first time in 12 days to get food is going to somehow be responsible for the death of a relative is batshit and also fucking disgusting. Or anyone leaving their home once every few days to get food. Just bonkers.

Blimey I've seen some odd posts on CV19 but oranges lack of understand but virulent nastiness takes some doing..

Sneezing is not a 'symptom' of CV19 but sneezing is a means by which transmission occurs. But generally agree with PP - science not your subject really (but YAY to Facebook)

OP- you'll have been fine, you practice good hygiene and you're thinking about yourself and others... take care

@OrangeTwirl Yours is actually one of the most unpleasant, hysterical and downright nonsensical posts I've seen on MN in a while, and that's pretty impressive. Have a celebratory cookie (I'll leave it on your doorstep) Biscuit

Honestly, calm down. You're fine. I'd come off MN for a bit tbh, you'll only focus on the numerous posters who are loving the drama and predicting everyone is going to die.
