Obsessed with taking temperature

I need to stop doing this. I keep checking my own temp. Today it has fluctuated between 36.9 and 37.3. It was 37.3 last time I took it convinced it is going up......I also have a headache

This is not healthy is it??

You’re right. Have you had problems with anxiety before?

I’d try limit yourself to checking once a day to start with.

lucymaudmonty · 25/03/2020 17:28

I haven't had it before but at the minute I'd say I've got lots of anxiety symptoms, like many people probably.

I can't sleep for a start. I've had an upset tummy which I know can be a symptom
Of both CV and anxiety.

I keep having catastrophic thoughts.....like my dcs have been playing in the garden but keep worrying in case they injure themselves and we'll have to go to hospital and we'll catch it there.

I was very poorly back in Feb with symptoms similar to CV including a v bad throat.....since then I've had this weird sensation when swallowing like a lump in my throat which I feel is getting worse.

I've never been like this before.....

My temp fluctuates like mad, try not to worry about it. The other day it was 37.6 but quickly went down to 37.1, which is my average temperature

Mysocalledlifexx · 25/03/2020 18:01

Your chest and back go hot so u would know if it was that, they say u dont even need to take your temp u would know.
Stay calm do things to take your mind off everything x

Isadora2007 · 25/03/2020 18:04

I disagree you’d “know if you had a temperature” tbh. I keep feeling flushed and like I have a temperature but when it’s checked I don’t. I have chills which I’ve usually only had during a temperature, but I don’t have one. My thermometer is fine.

My advice to you @lucymaudmonty would be to decide on a time of day to check- twice if you like- but keep sticking to that boundary.

Classic anxiety symptoms. Sad
Accept what you cannot change and sit and read a book, watch a film, do some baking, anything to stop you focussing on your fears.
Distract, distract, distract.
Leave off social media and watching the news and be strict with yourself and only take your temp. once a day.
Remember that more than 98% of CV patients recover.

cinammonbuns · 25/03/2020 18:13

This is anxiety. Ignore the poster saying you should still keep taking your temperature. Everybody knows when they have a bloody fever. Lock away the thermometer or bin it.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 25/03/2020 18:25

Could you have GERD? - that presents as stomach problems and the feeling of a lump in the throat. (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease).

Hoggleludo · 25/03/2020 19:57

I always think

What does worrying achieve? I have a temp of 38.5 right now (though I do have a proved kidney infection!) only just got out of hospital. They want me back. But so far I've tried to gently resist.

But what does my worrying achieve? Does it reduce my chances significantly? Does it stop me getting CV? Does taking my temp stop me getting CV?

Remember. We cannot control what happens to us

We CAN control how we react to it. Your children will see you stressing and worrying and think it's a normal reaction to something scary. Be strong

It's hard. I'm lucky. Even with a very rare illness. I don't tend to worry. But I have friends who it's disabling. Hugs mama xx

lucymaudmonty · 25/03/2020 21:23

Possibly Re GERD but not sure....

So far I have had the following

Upset tummy
Headache
Flushed in face (but no temp)
Lump in throat
