Cooked food delivery service for elderly

Hi I am looking for cooked food delivery service for elderly.

A friend 70+ has been isolated for a month. He claims he is too weak to cook, so I cook for him and DH delivers food everyday. However, I am seriously tired. He has lots of allergies and I need to cook separately only for him. I work at home with three children. We do not receive any money from him, and we have to cook from our food stock, which we don't have many. He is a kind man but I feel we did enough and I want to recommend regular cooked food delivery service for him if there is any.

If you know regular cooked food delivery service, please let me know. Many thanks.

Try your local Council's website - look under Adult Social Care. That should give details of local companies.

Wiltshire Farm Foods?
COOK?

Are you sure he's not taking the piss a bit? Why isn't he giving you money for it?

LIZS · 25/03/2020 17:23

Try your local Age uk or social day centre and ask if they are providing a meal service.

We have been very impressed with Parsley Box .
Vacuum packed fresh food posted to your door .
They can be kept in the cupboard and heated in microwave .
Mil finds them better than frozen as she didn’t have to make a decision on what to eat in the morning and defrost .

Tell him the arrangement cannot continue and give him the names of Parsley Box and Wiltshire Farms or local companies your council might have. You can't afford to keep accommodating this.

Hi thank you very much for the suggestions! All information is very helpful. I checked their websites and they look really great! But it seems that they deliver only to existing customers at this moment.

I spoke to DH and he says we might need to continue it at least for another three weeks, otherwise he might die. Three weeks is so long and I complained it but he says he wants to help him at least now because he was the best friend of his dad.

I just came back from Tesco now but there was not many foods left. Our next Tesco food delivery is a week later. I hope we have enough food stock for five of us and him...

When he asked DH for food delivery, he said he didn't have cash because he always pay by cardsConfused So we don't receive anything from him.

I will try to call local age UK if there is any service available for him. So tired.

Why isn’t your DH sharing the cooking?

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 25/03/2020 22:38

So your DH needs to cook his meals then. Honestly, he's taking the piss not paying you when you're on a limited budget and have 3 kids to feed Hmm.

@11plusfinished :
Sorry you are taking this additional strain at such a difficult time for us all.
I'm a shielding at the moment so can't go out at all for 12 weeks.
I know that community services/councils are currently trying to fast track armies of volunteers to provide/supply food, shopping medications etc to the extremely vulnerable.
Once this is up and running, I'm confident/optimistic that something of that type will be expanded to include other vulnerable folk, such as your friend.
Why is he "too weak to cook"?
Is he currently ill?
Could he make use of any takeaways a couple of times each week, allergies permitting?
Could your DH take his card to do his shopping and return it to him after he's shopped , with a receipt?
Chip and pin allowance has been / is about to be increased to £45, so no need for disclosure of any PIN numbers.

Wingedharpy · 25/03/2020 22:49

I'm not a shielding - I'm shielding.

Livingthecovidaloca · 25/03/2020 22:54

Wiltshire Farm Foods are very good. Great range, almost all of them are reheated in the microwave.
Customer Service is excellent.

Wingedharpy · 25/03/2020 23:00

Contactless payment up to £45 not chip and pin.
Sorry.
Brain function diminishing due to lack of use.

Lightsabre · 25/03/2020 23:05

Wiltshire Farm Foods, Oakhouse etc are only delivering to existing customers at the moment unfortunately.

11plusfinished · 31/03/2020 18:10

Thank you very much for your comments. Actually the situation changed. Both of DH and I developed symptoms. We have fever, cough and chest pain and have been staying in bed for days.

DH called him and told that we are no longer able to deliver foods and he should look for delivery service. He gave the information of those retailers you suggested.

He told us he called them but it's difficult to start now and asked us to come. But we said no. Now his landlord is cooking for him.
