Clothes shopping in sainsburys

My partner wants to go out to buy his daughter clothes for her birthday to sainsburys. I think its non essential so we are arguing about that. But are they even selling them?

Order them online then

Jollitwiglet · 25/03/2020 13:07

Would you normally do a food shop at Sainsbury's? Could he do it at the same time as a food shop?

QuimJongUn · 25/03/2020 13:07

Why on earth are Sainsbury's still selling clothes?! Surely there's a huge potential to spread the virus when people try them on or return them to the store if they're unsuitable. You're right, they're not essential and I'm astounded supermarkets are doing this.

iVampire · 25/03/2020 13:08

If they are selling them and you are in the shop anyhow, I don’t see why you shouldn’t buy a non-essential item which is going to be a child’s birthday present.

Don’t make a special trip though.

If they’ve closed that section, then pick something else that is in the main store, or order clothes online

thatonesmine · 25/03/2020 13:08

Clothes get handled/tried on an awful lot in shops. I'm not planning to buy any with the ongoing.

disconnecteddrifter · 25/03/2020 13:10

He was going anyway I just thought it wouldn't be a good idea to hang around in there. No online as no deliveries

Are Sainsbury’s still selling clothes? If the shop is open and he’s going in for groceries then that should be ok? I’d order online though.

Lara53 · 25/03/2020 13:41

You can order the clothes online to collect in store and take them home

GameSetMatch · 25/03/2020 13:42

I picked up a craft set whilst doing my shopping yesterday, it’s the sane thing. How olds the daughter? Does she understand maybe delaying her birthday treats?

GCAcademic · 25/03/2020 13:44

Surely they will have sectioned off the clothing / homewares, etc?

cupoftea84 · 25/03/2020 13:50

Are people suggesting that babies that out grow their clothes should go naked or in clothes too small? What about pregnant women? They'll need maturity clothes before this is over. Maybe there are people that can't get home and haven't got much with them.

There's lots of reasons why people may need to buy clothes as essentials.

disconnecteddrifter · 25/03/2020 13:52

Shes 9 so old enough. I was going to make a cake and picture etc. Its between him and me. I think we should take the message seriously and so does he until it affects his fancy food and anyone in his family. I'm happy to ration on pasta dishes and sandwiches. He doesnt think we should have to eat sandwiches etc. His brother flew in from New York last week and he went to see him. We have differences in how we interpret lockdown in general. Kids are super and totally understand. We are lucky in that respect

We've got clothes. I'm pregnant but not planning on going out anyway so can wear baggy things. He doesnt see it's a birthday without presents. We would order online but I also feel bad about people having to work in warehouses and delivery for the sake of our need for non essential things but I get that he isnt thinking of it in this way

If he's going there anyway, I don't see the harm in spending an extra 5 or 10 minutes choosing a couple of items of clothing - those areas of the shop won't be busy anyway.

I doubt that his buying this will cause warehouse workers to have to do more. I don't think the supermarkets are restocking clothes anyway.
