Coronavirus and School Fees

I’m just asking, I’m not complaining. I just want to know if you’re paying full fees during this outbreak.

I work for a private school. I want to reduce fees, the Head isn’t keen.

I just wondered what what actually happening on the ground as I can’t get hold of counterparts at other schools atm.

Nothing been said here - 2 different schools. I'm hoping they will at least take off the lunch charge but wouldn't expect any reduction beyond that.

SpringerJS · 25/03/2020 08:47

Our school is most likely to opt for a 10% discount in summer and autumn terms and obviously freezing any fee increase. Not in London or SE though.

There are threads in this in Education and Secondary Education.

I would expect to pay full fees as the teachers still need to be paid. However, I would not expect to be charged for extras such as before or after school care. And maybe some flexibility for parents who have seen their earnings plummet.

Thank you all for your responses.

Funnily enough I had a call from a colleague and The Board has met (virtually) and we are now planning a discount and additional assistance for anyone who needs it.

I’ll look at the other threads too. Hard to know where to post these days.

Full fees here for our secondary school. Thankfully my 5 year olds are in a state school !

BentBastard · 25/03/2020 10:36

Our school is taking lunches off next terms bill and any other general savings they can make is going into the bursary pot and they are encouraging those in need to apply to the bursary fund.

An email about fee increases next year went out just before CV exploded and I know there is pressure from the parents to freeze the increase but not sure what school are deciding to do.

Ali85 · 25/03/2020 12:12

One of our local schools has announced 80% fees for the coming term. Not sure whether others will follow.

LucheroTena · 25/03/2020 12:13

Nothing said here yet but I feel they should take lunch fees off and lower fees in the next term. They definitely shouldn’t raise the fees next year!

Devlesko · 25/03/2020 12:16

I'm expecting to still pay tbh, but we are heavily subsidised by the gov. Lessons are continuing though and the time table followed.
We still have music lessons and accompanist appointments, all the same except online.

The problem is that many parents will have their income affected by this and the likely recession that will follow. In reality its likely to be reduce fees a bit or see parents removing their children through necessity.
