Are there literally no passganer planes in our skies?
I know that must be the case but I cant get my head around it.

Selfsettling3 · 25/03/2020 08:26

I saw one yesterday so there must still be some.

StealthPolarBear · 25/03/2020 08:26

Passenger

There are people coming back to UK aren't there? And presumably vice versa.

KatherineJaneway · 25/03/2020 08:27

I have seen planes.

Crackerofdoom · 25/03/2020 08:27

There are still some but far fewer than usual

www.flightradar24.com/47.92,16.64/7

This website shows a map where you can see the progress of every passenger plane in the sky.

And it's not a stupid question at all :-)

TheReelSlimShady · 25/03/2020 08:28

Not a stupid question at all.

Do you mean in the UK/ Europe? A lot of planes are being grounded as borders are put up, but there are still some left, it depends on what individual country restrictions.

I did read however that China is now starting to ramp up flights again!

KatherineJaneway · 25/03/2020 08:28

Maybe look at downloading the Flight radar app? It is a bit addictive.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 25/03/2020 08:29

I live next to an airport, there are still a few taking off daily but not many.

Marieo · 25/03/2020 08:29

There are some, but substantially less, and the amount will likely decrease further in the next few weeks.

Crackerofdoom · 25/03/2020 08:29

Bearing in mind, that map is a far smaller number than usual, it will give you an idea of the insane number of planes in the air on a normal day and why the environment really needs us to cut down on flights Confused

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/03/2020 08:31

Still plenty showing on flight radar.

lubeybooby · 25/03/2020 08:32

there really shouldn't be any imho, or at least a tiny skeleton service of bugger all but looking at flightradar24 things look almost normal

ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2020 08:34

I saw only one con trail yesterday.

If you do see planes they may be freight, I assume they're still operating.

FaithInfinity · 25/03/2020 08:38

My cousin is cabin crew who is grounded, she shared this article [https://www.twoguysonaplane.com/post/what-it-s-like-to-be-a-flight-attendant-during-a-global-pandemic link to two guys on a plane]] states most flights are grounded but occasional ones are going out but with 8 instead of 300 passengers.

Sooverthemill · 25/03/2020 08:44

link here

BelleSausage · 25/03/2020 08:55

It might be a bit busier today because Dubai airport is shutting down tonight and it is a minor hub. All traffic has to get through before then.

If you look at Bristol, Exeter and East Mids airports there is virtually no traffic at all.

Sparklingplasters · 25/03/2020 09:15

I’m in the south East and yesterday I didn’t see a single passenger aircraft. Sky was beautifully clear, like ash cloud time.

StealthPolarBear · 25/03/2020 09:54

Interesting. Thanks everyone. Where I live if we see a plane we point it out to the children :)

There are. My neighbour is in Thailand and is flying home tomorrow

Falangalangadingdang · 25/03/2020 09:58

Do NOT look at the flight radar thing. It's quite easy to become obsessed with it Grin

hellsbells99 · 25/03/2020 10:20

My DH works at Manchester airport. He said there were only a few landed during last night - only 2 from his airline bringing holiday makers home.

Smithesque · 25/03/2020 10:21

There is a Tui plane going from London Gatwick to Cancun at the moment!!!!!
