Can you get infected twice?

Seeing posts of people just about to come out of isolation and brave the shops after suspected CV symptoms. Can they pick up a secondary infection?

If you have not been tested during the first illness, you cannot be sure what you have had. So the only assumption you can work on - for your own safety - is that you are not immune

No one knows for sure. Possibly.

I understand coronaviruses are an umbrella of viruses... So just cuz they got one, i cant see why they'd think they are safe...

As others have said, you can't be sure you've had CV unless you've been tested.

There is some evidence now that if it was CV then you'll have some immunity.

But you also mentioned secondary infections - I may be wrong but if you're not fully recovered then I think that can be an issue.

There are so many viruses going around that I wouldn't assume anyone has had it just because they had some symptoms and had to isolate. I guess if you got a textbook case you would feel a bit more confident.

Some people have had confirmed covid -19, recovered, and then tested positive again. This is so far quite rare and not fully understood I think. The consensus, but little is certain at this point with such a new virus, is that most people who have it will get a level of immunity to it at least for some months.
