New Puppy pick up - will we be stopped?

We are due to pick up our long awaited family puppy on Monday. It's a labradoodle that we've been visiting at its family home since it was a few weeks old. Are we still able to go?? Will we be stopped? It was supposed to be bringing us so much happiness. The breeder says they'll do what they can to make sure the handover is as socially distanced as possible. Will it be ok or will we have to cancel??!!

Stay at home.

Ubercornsdiscoball · 24/03/2020 21:44

I’m sorry but it’s just not an essential journey. You shouldn’t be visiting them at all for the next 3 weeks

HasaDigaEebowai · 24/03/2020 21:45

Stay at home.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/03/2020 21:48

As I said on the other thread I'm going to pick up my new rescue dog from 6 miles away all being well

I don't see how your journey is different than mine, mine is 'not essential' - still going to stop a dog getting put down or the rescue overrun

jayritchie · 24/03/2020 21:48

Exceptional case for me. Go collect and enjoy your puppy.

Lycidas · 24/03/2020 21:49

You're highly unlikely to be stopped, if that's what you're asking. It's up to your own conscience. Things are likely to get worse before they get better, so if you don't pick up now it could be a long while.

Ubercornsdiscoball · 24/03/2020 21:50

Exceptional case??????? What don’t people understand?? Stay at home!

LibrettoCornetto · 24/03/2020 21:51

You fool. Of course you shouldn't go.

Sux2buthen · 24/03/2020 22:00

Shopping if necessary
Medical need
Caring for someone
One exercise

No, nothing about a new puppy.
Essential only

Bluebellbike · 24/03/2020 22:05

I just heard some government person on TV answering exactly this question. He said yes, go to pick up the puppy. Have no contact with the seller/breeder, they must leave the puppy secured outside for you to collect.

CallMeRachel · 24/03/2020 22:06

Deliveries of goods are still ongoing. People are having all sorts brought to their doors in my area.

Speak to the breeder and get a good plan arranged so they deliver the puppy to you while ensuring social distancing is preserved.

They can leave it in a crate at your front door with all bags and you take it from there surely?

Handle everything with gloves until you can clean it down.

What risk is there in that?

Windyatthebeach · 24/03/2020 22:07

Could you offer to pay costs to the breeder to house your dpuppy a while longer?
We have had ours for 6 weeks. Very difficult to get her out and socialised right now... She isn't getting walked enough..
Ensuring food /toys are in abundance is proving difficult. Wrong timing ime..
Dpuppy was 14 weeks when we got her. A few weeks won't matter op really.
Lots of disappointments to deal with atm sadly.

Oh and vets aren't doing vaccinations now anyway...

dontgobaconmyheart · 24/03/2020 22:10

Oh come on OP. Everybody has something they could be going to that would bring them 'much needed' happiness. They aren't going and your situation is no different at all. You will just have to wait.

Let's face it the puppy is realistically happier in its home anyway, that it knows, with people it knows. I doubt it can distinguish you and your family from any other occasional visitors, whether you like to think so or not!

Yes, you may well be stopped and fined because it is not essential travel.

SQuueze · 24/03/2020 22:21

Get the puppy. Don’t have contact with breeder. But you. Ishtar run out of kitchen paper for the wees.

Hannah021 · 24/03/2020 22:24

@LaurieFairyCake, r u serious? Did u just compare a dog being put down with a puppy that can stay with his owner for a bit longer? She can pay the owner if she's worried he'd give him up to someone else... That comparison is completely ridiculous.

Barbie222 · 24/03/2020 22:26

This is going to be such a hard time to socialise a puppy properly too.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 24/03/2020 22:30

I would go and get the puppy - it’s probably safer than going food shopping at the moment. As long as you practise social distancing I think it’s totally fine. I’m sure it would be a welcome distraction for you and your family x

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 24/03/2020 22:32

It’s a one off journey, the OP isn’t then going out with the puppy showing it to all her friends - she’s taking it straight back home!

MovinOnUp · 24/03/2020 22:34

Our puppy isn't even born yet and I've already arranged for the breeder to keep him/her longer if social distancing/lockdown is still ongoing in 10 weeks.
This is not an essential journey OP.

Ubercornsdiscoball · 24/03/2020 22:34

And this is why thousands will die needlessly

serialtester · 24/03/2020 22:40

We're in the midst of a global pandemic. The NHS is on the point of collapse. We have clear instructions about when to go out and you want to get a puppy???

This.
In spades.
