Are vape shops essential and therefore allowed to stay open?

I would say no. But the one on my street seems to think the answer is yes.

They might stay open to fulfill deliveries, rather than open to browsers

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2020 21:39

Only going by what some other European countries have done, but newsagents and tobacconists have stayed open

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2020 21:41

...but not sure about actual vape shops

Bearbehind · 24/03/2020 21:42

Given CV affects people with respiratory illnesses, surely vape shops staying open is better than people buying 20 B&H from Tesco’s?

Like Whitney said, it’s not right but it’s OK,

browzingss · 24/03/2020 21:45

The one near me accepts UPS/DPD parcels for people to collect in their store, so a useful service outside of vape products. Although now that more people are at home, there’s presumably less missed deliveries so not as much demand

Most shops that sell cigs also sell e-liquid but it's generally 50/50. If you're a 70/30 user, you might get stuck. Then there's the matter if coils. Can you order online at all?

PuzzledObserver · 24/03/2020 21:48

Newsagents were on the list of essential shops, and you can often buy vape stuff there. And at the supermarket - so it’s not as though valets couldn’t get hold of it anywhere.

Watching with interest. Some countries have allowed them to stay open, but not seen specific guidance here yet. I’d report to 101 and see if they close it or not, then let us know!

PuzzledObserver · 24/03/2020 21:49

I neither smoke nor vape, so have no interest in obtaining supplies. I’m just curious as to whether they are in order.

Probably not, plus you can get vape juice at corner shops and supermarkets.

Howmanysleepsnow · 24/03/2020 21:58

@SimonJT you can’t buy coils though, and they need replacing every few days.

Had an email from the company that owns my local one shortly after the lockdown announcement to say they'd be shutting all of their shops immediately. But they'll still be selling online. Vaping helped me to quit cigarettes and since vaping I've dropped my nicotine strength from the highest I could get, to so low I have to make it up myself. I probably could quit without too much difficulty, but have been using it more regularly in the last few weeks. Lots of people I know switched to vaping, some of whom smoked over 30 a day. It may not be essential but probably better than lots of people moving back to cigarettes. Which apparently has happened in other countries.

Ive made an online order for my liquids.
I usually get them from supermarkets but im avoiding shopping and dont want to risk not getting them seeing as everything else is out of stock.
I dont tend to use vape shops as out of my price range, other than the one an acquaintance owns that I pop in to for a chat and to support if im passing by.
No idea if hes staying open, i wouldnt have thought they were essential really.
What set up are you using that you need new coils every few days?
My coils cost about €3 each it would be almost as expensive as smoking to do that, every 3 or 4 weeks for me.
