What are current supermarket food buying restrictions?

I've managed to make do with what we had in for the quite a few days, but will need to venture out to a supermarket soon.

The last time I went out, supermarkets were just bringing in in the food restriction rules. Can anyone explain what these are? The supermarkets seem to say things like "no more than 3 of an item" but from reading social media this varies from 3 of the same item, 3 of similar items or even one person posted they were only allowed 3 bananas.

Any recent info very welcome!

I think it depends on which supermarket you’re on about.

Sainsbury’s have restrictions of no more of 3 of the same item (you can get different flavours of the same thing, like yoghurts, without it counting though... unless you got 4 strawberry yoghurts!) but no more than 2 of “in demand” items like toilet roll, cleaning products etc
