A question about schools still being open for 'vulnerable' children...?

I heard on the radio this morning that as well as staying open for the children of essential workers, schools would also be taking children who are from homes where they are considered vulnerable or at risk.

Now while it doesn't take a genius to work out what sorts of things that might mean, what other less obvious things might it mean? Whose job is it to identify those children and how are things broached with their parents, when everybody else is told to keep their children off?

Would it only be children who were known to SS already, in which case their parents would be aware, or does an awkward conversation need to be had with some parents along the lines of 'we thin your child would be safer here with us' ?

It's children with a designated social worker and then,as a separate group, children with EHCPs , if their parents or carers want.

Children who have a social worker and those with an education, health and care plan are covered. Schools do also have some flexibility to offer where they believe a particularly family is vulnerable eg where there is domestic abuse but no social worker although I do not know how it would work in practice.

Parents generally already know. If children have an EHCP or statement of special needs they are invited in. Or if they have a social worker.
No awkward conversions needed! Smile
