I only caught the tail end of the briefing so I'm not sure if there were details of how to apply or the kind of work required, but:

If you had a fit young person in your household, currently not working because of the crisis, would you want them to do it or prefer to keep your household as safe as possible by not letting anyone be out?

We have no additional risk and DS could do with a sense of purpose and something to put on his CV! The rest of us are working from home.

I'm usually very much in favour of doing your bit....

Yes I’d send him and would like to do something myself, although no physical work. My kids are too young. I hope the government have decent ppe for them.

Depends what it is. Delivering food parcels to the doorsteps of NHS workers wouldn't involve contact (other than picking them up initially).

Peaseblossom22 · 24/03/2020 17:24

I am also wondering this but I am asthmatic so really don’t want further exposure . If it was relatively low contact though ?

Egghead68 · 24/03/2020 17:26

I would send him. It will be delivering food parcels and medications to doorsteps. Minimal risk and invaluable service - something to look back on when he’s older.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 24/03/2020 17:26

I would like to do it. I'm WFH as a teacher so would need to fit around tha and childcare.

Puppywithattitude · 24/03/2020 17:29

How do you apply?

BentBastard · 24/03/2020 17:30

www.goodsamapp.org/NHS

BentBastard · 24/03/2020 17:31

There are some telephone check in roles so you could still do your bit if you can't leave the house.

I think I might volunteer next week when my 14 days is up.

Puppywithattitude · 24/03/2020 17:54

Shame they don't want extra people to help with ward stuff, like serving lunches and things like blood pressure checks. Obviously that would require some training which I doubt anyone has time for but I would imagine would be helpful?

Glaceon · 24/03/2020 18:52

My kids are staying with their dad. I currently have symptoms but thinking of volunteering when I'm safe to.

DoubleAction · 24/03/2020 20:08

Well, I "mentioned" it to him and he signed up straight away! He never does anything straightaway Grin

I'm interested to know more.

I'd like to help in some way, but wondering how I can when I work fulltime M-F ? I guess it'll be good to see the details.

OwlsFlyByNight · 24/03/2020 20:17

I’ve looked at the website and it says you can switch the app to “on duty” when you are available, but there are no actual details of what you’re signing up for. I’d like to help, but would like more information really.

My employer holds my DBS certificate I’m enhanced with barred but you have to upload an image

HR sent me my details but can’t send an image

Any ideas what I can do?

Mooserp · 24/03/2020 20:29

I've signed up. There are fact sheets once you've uploaded your id which give more details on the roles

DoubleAction · 24/03/2020 20:30

You don't needs a dbs for all the roles.

As an aside, your employer shouldn't keep the original, in fact they shouldn't even keep a copy on file. The certificate belongs to you and contains your personal data which they can use for one purpose only, so they don't need to keep it and have no right to do so.

AngeloftheSnorth · 24/03/2020 20:34

Ok yes I’ve just seen you can use passport

My brain is fried. 🤦🏻‍♀️

AngeloftheSnorth · 24/03/2020 20:34

Thank you @DoubleAction :)

RandomMess · 24/03/2020 20:35

Is there a lower age limit?

OwlsFlyByNight · 24/03/2020 20:37

Ok I’ve signed up as has my DH. Really want to help while I’m off work, would feel terrible just sitting around with while people need food or whatever.

Wrongdissection · 24/03/2020 20:48

@RandomMess they have to be over 18.

RandomMess · 24/03/2020 20:51

Arggghhh
