Park cafe deciding to reopen

I am really cross about this.

A local park cafe is to reopen tomorrow. Providing take away only, cooked meals, drinks and snacks. They are taking hygiene measures, wearing gloves, thorough cleaning etc, but it is a totally unnecessary service.

I have posted on their FB page urging them to reconsider only to be told I am making a drama, being judgemental etc.

It will result in hoardes of people using the park especially with the nice weather we have now.

Contact your local council. They will have the power to stop them I would have thought

Thank you, I will

Well that was quick! Contacted local council via FB, they told me they will be breaking the law if they open tomorrow and will inform the relevant teams.

What's worrying is how little some people understand social distancing. People jumped on me to say I am over-reacting, the cafe is spotlessly clean etc!

So high street cafes can do takeaway but park cafes can’t?

Or is it only food delivery that’s allowed?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/03/2020 17:48

Not sure if cafes are open now @AutumnRose1

Yesterday our local cafe and coffee bar type place were open but today they are not.

twosoups1972 · 24/03/2020 17:49

@AutumnRose1 the thing that worried me was that by opening a park cafe, it will encourage people out into the park and hang around unnecessarily. The cafe have tried to put measures in place eg phoning orders through, move away from counter when you have your food etc....but ultimately it will increase social contact. It's nothing to do with hygiene, even Subway and McDonalds are closed.

OP if takeaways are allowed in the high street then I imagine people will hang around chatting there as well....

I don’t do takeaway so not sure really. There’s benches in my local high street too.

I think a park cafe is slightly different. It's a beautiful park very much used when the weather is nice. I think people will make a visit to the park for that reason ie to get food, thus increasing the number of people in the park.

If you're visiting a park for exercise, do your walk/run then GO HOME.

A cafe is allowed to open for takeaway but if the council thinks its high risk no doubt that can do something. I agree it could increase footfall and people hanging around too close together.

Park cafe not really essential, we do need food providers to stay open though for people who can’t cook due to facilities, time money illness etc . I was really annoyed that Mac Donald’s closed its drive through as they have to be one of the most isolated ways to get hot food and they could have insisted on contactless payment only etc. Bet they only did it for the government wage promise

Idiots were gathering outside McDonald's restaurants. I can't imagine McDonalds are thrilled about losing money for weeks. If they had stayed open as a drive through they would have been profitable.
