More sirens?

Is anybody else hearing more sirens.
we live a mile away from our local hospital, and I've heard 12 today and 6 yesterday, and it's rare you hear them at all.
I know this because I usually think of something funny my Dad used to say, that of course would be unsuitable to say now.
So, I'm not usually oblivious.
Dh says I'm just hearing them now.

I am hearing more, too. Small SE town near arterial route to several hospitals. It's depressing

Youngatheart00 · 24/03/2020 15:37

Yes. I said this on another thread the other day, but no one concurred so I thought it was just me!

Whether it is more sirens or whether it’s just quieter on the roads and streets so I’m just hearing them more, I don’t know.

Marieo · 24/03/2020 15:38

Hearing less here, I am sure that will sadly change soon enough though.

InTheFamilyTree · 24/03/2020 15:41

Yes Ive noticed it here too, in the London 'burbs, a good 5 miles or so from a hospital

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/03/2020 15:42

I've heard way less than normal! To be honest it's usually police sirens where I live though. Sad

behindlocknumbernine · 24/03/2020 15:43

I think it’s because you are subconsciously listening out for them. Like when you’re newly pregnant and suddenly you notice lots of pregnant women around you as you go about your day?

It is also quieter. Less cars, motorbikes, vans, busses, lorries, planes. It makes a difference.

Yesterday I heard 3 sirens.
So far today none.

NotQuiteUsual · 24/03/2020 15:43

I remember someone from Milan saying the same thing a couple weeks ago.

Orangeblossom78 · 24/03/2020 15:43

I have been hearing a helicopter more than usual. Small city. Nearly every day.

Gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 24/03/2020 15:45

Nothing here, although the council have been out cutting the grass on the large green area, not exactly essential I would have thoughtConfused

goingoverground · 24/03/2020 15:46

Less sirens here in central London (very near a major teaching hospital, police station and fire station), in fact, I don't think I've noticed one all day. Presumably because the roads are pretty clear so they don't need them as much.

HarrietThePi · 24/03/2020 15:47

Yes, for well over a week now I have been hearing sirens far more regularly. I am hearing them at least once a day which is very unusual for here.

Devlesko · 24/03/2020 15:59

I'm not suggesting they are all virus cases, but why the increase in sirens. I'm sure the hospital has just as many non virus emergencies as usual, but we don't usually hear the sirens.
Fewer cars on the road so not like they have to get through heavy traffic.
There's hardly anything on our usually busy road.

Yep it’s been like that since the weekend. Not sure as it’s quieter with less road traffic and plane noise it’s more noticeable?

BracoNY · 25/03/2020 04:21

They started to silence all sirens here in NY. I heard many in the past week and all of a sudden, none. In 47 years I’ve never heard a day without sirens

Itwasntme1 · 25/03/2020 04:50

It’s much quieter here. I have noticed the lack of planes in the sky. Haven’t heard any sirens at all (medium sized cit’s). But very little traffic on roads, so sirens probably not needed as much.

janeskettle · 25/03/2020 05:08

I'm in another country, near a hospital, and I've heard more than usual.
