Nicola Sturgeon Says Gardeners and Window Cleaners Can Work

So gardeners and window cleaners can work according to Nicola Sturgeon (provided they observe social distancing guidelines). However an expert on BBC news who was asked the exact same question said DEFINITELY NO, this is a really bad idea because if they have an accident in their van on their way to the client's house they could end up being infected or infect someone else.

DH works as a gardener and doesn't know what to do. I really wish this government would get their act together and we could have some CONSISTENCY on what is and is not allowed.

I want to know the answer too

Consistent rules really are needed. I agree with the BBC guy though.

Not just if you have an accident, but you need to fill up the tank and you need to just pop in and buy some oil etc and maybe see to the MOT and so on.

Maintaining gardens may just need a hoe, but then you need to buy plants, fertiliser. Everything leads to something else.

If you work alone as a jobbing gardener, use your own tools, take instructions from the client by phone and have no contact with them while in their garden, then get paid by bank transfer, it’s hard to see where the risk is. We will all need to buy petrol, even if just to drive to the supermarket.Petrol pumps supply disposable gloves to handle the pump nozzle, which you can then bin. You’d have to be happy with the gardener having a pee in your garden though, so he doesn’t come into your home to use the loo. Grin

Gardener could always use an empty milk bottle Babdoc, if the gardener was a he.

The virus doesn’t survive well on clean outdoor surfaces that’s why we are able to go outside for exercise. I imagine a gardener who comes in from the back gate and uses his own tools won’t be at risk.

Well the gardening contractor who cuts the grass for the HA properties in our road has just been to mow all the lawns so clearly they think it's OK to carry on. They don't enter anyone's back gardens just the open plan fronts and communal verges.

I hired a cleaning company to do a deep clean of an empty house while the occupant was in hospital. It would have been one person over three days so 24 hours work. We discussed the impact of the virus. They accepted the job on Monday and took the money up front.

They called today to say that as a result of government instructions they would no longer be able to do the job. When I asked for a refund they said they would talk to the accounts department but as they were on short term working it would take “some time”

I am actually struggling to see how one person working in an empty house using cleaning products already there and travelling by car would increase the spread of the virus. House has been empty for two weeks so nothing in there that could cross contaminate. Just feel ripped off!
