So sad and extraordinary that this could happen in a care hime context. How many staff were there? Even if the entire day shift called in sick, where were the night shift.Did they just leave?????

On a related point I am very concerned about how elderly people in the UK will cope. Many live alone in their own homes, often with dementia, and dependent on informal care arrangements. What happens where regular carers are sick?

I see lots about online shopping and virtual meet ups.But there is a whole generation out there with no internet access.

Even if staff don't turn up for work, the home manager will have over all responsibility for the place and should have contacted the authorities.

And what about family members was there no contact at all with the home? Makes no sense.
tegucigalpa13 I am worried too. I walk a dog every day for a 90 year old lady in my village. She has no children and 2 great nephews who live 5 miles away and never bother with her. I really worry for her.

It's absolutely tragic. But I can see how it could happen in our new reality.

Let's imagine a town where we have 100 carers and 1000 people needing to be cared for (residential or at home) Imagine 30 of the carers are high risk - either older age/diabetic/asthma/high blood pressure etc and are told to stay at home. Another 20 carers decide they won't work - they either have high risk people at home/children and no childcare (without grandparents) or are simply too fearful. They either quit, take unpaid leave or "self isolae" So now we have 50 carers.

As the virus spreads more and more carers or their loved ones are ill or self isolating at home or sick in hospital. More people in the community are sick and need help.

I imagine the situation could develop to be left with 30 healthy carers and 2000 people needing care. As carers see the losing battle they are facing they are too scared or too despairing or simply can't do enough.

The only way to avoid it is to slow the spread with a full lockdown.
