holiday cottages

They seem not to be included in the 'shut down' message to hotels, holiday parks and b&bs. I have a week booked in a rural cottage and last time I spoke to the owners , last week, they were quite determined to encourage us to come. Obviously we now can't. Has anyone had any luck in getting refunds or postponements? It was an expensive treat that's why I'm wondering what's reasonable.

Did you book directly with owner? Holiday rentals haven't specifically been included in the message but before the announcement yesterday but I think most rental properties let through agents are offering to at least move bookings to later this year or next year. Air bnb is giving full refunds.

Also many housekeeping companies are stopping operating (understandably cleaners do not want to risk cleaning potentially infected houses) which puts a stop to rentals in any case.

Having said all that, I think given last night's announcement, purely as holidays are 'non essential travel' you. have a very good case to argue with the owners now.

Where did you book through? We cancelled with air b and b last week and have had a full refund of what we'd paid so far. It came under their extenuating circumstances policy and wasn't even questioned.

If you booked it and took out your insurance proper to 11th 12th 13th March 2020. Your policy will.probably cover you.

Don't have insurance (who takes insurance for UK holidays? I will in future!) and it wouldn't cover it if we 'chose' not to go anyway. Even my summer trip isn't covered unless govt actually ban travel to the location which they won't. I'd be surprised if many people got insurance coverage to pay out in circumstances like this to be honest. It's a private company. I guess I'll just wait and hope they see sense. That's a good point about cleaning agencies.

I have an annual policy but before that if I booked a UK break costing more than I'd like to lose I did take out cover. 2 weeks camping in Cornwall in August a few years ago cost over £500 So we paid the £11 insurance.
Mostbholidayblets run nearer to a thousand pounds. To me thats alot of money to lose so Why wouldn't I insure that?
UK single trip cover is peanuts.
