Sorry if this has been asked... but... Amazon and online shops?

Are they still allowed to deliver?

I've ordered a printer from Ryman's, which is due to ship tomorrow, to print out work for the kids etc.

I also want to order artsy stuff from Amazon for the kids and some hobby supplies for me.

In the PMs list he says that online shops can still function but won't they have to have people pick and pack? Is it only key essentials that we are allowed to order? Am I massively overthinking this?

I was wondering this too. I've ordered printer ink and paper. Surely they will be classed as somewhat essential.

Numbersarefun · 24/03/2020 09:40

Michael Gove on R4 this morning said online shops could stay open and send deliveries.

Zomblie · 24/03/2020 10:27

Oh that's good :)

Amazon still deliver, I ordered stuff on Saturday and the amazon man threw it through the open kitchen window to avoid contact 😂 prime is not next day but as we aren't going anywhere there is no rush!

Thank God for that. Have already been 2 weeks without a washing machine and new one is due to be delivered tomorrow - definitely essential in a flat of 4 people, especially as we don't have a garden where we could hang out sopping wet, hand washed clothes!

Soontobe60 · 24/03/2020 12:26

I hope you've got someone to help you get the washing machine in the flat, as the delivery drivers have been told to leave goods outside.

All of these seem legit but please be mindful of ordering things you don't need as the posties are becoming overwhelmed and the delivery services may be needed for essential supplies.

cologne4711 · 24/03/2020 12:39

My postie didn't look overwhelmed this morning. Hopefully they've suspended the unaddressed leaflets nonsense so we don't get rubbish through the doors we don't want (and which, in theory could have the virus on it, though it's highly unlikely).

Online businesses are allowed to carry on trading, but they have to implement the 2metres distance.

olivesandpecans · 24/03/2020 12:39

I’m not sure if individual companies are deciding. We’ve had a Pram on order for three months from Fenwicks which was due to arrive this week and received an email saying they are closing their online operations for now. Unsure what that means about our order- waiting for a call

Wallywobbles · 24/03/2020 12:53

In France Amazon is now honoring previous orders but not accepting / delivering new ones. I'd expect the UK to be at the same stage in the next 10 days. So order now or go without.

Meckity1 · 24/03/2020 13:01

I'd be surprised if Amazon missed out on a chance to make money, and they deliver essentials as well.

I think there is going to be too much reliance on deliveries for the online stuff to close down.

Zomblie · 24/03/2020 13:28

I'm not intending to take them up on it but New Look have just emailed me to say they are still trading online. I would have thought that would go down as non essential shopping?
