Micheal Gove

So last night

Government advice was that children under 18 could be moved from one parents house to the other for visitation

Micheal Gove, on GMB, has just said thats not true. It's only in emergencies under 18 can be moved between separated parents.

Children under 18 should stay with the parent they are with now.

And then 5 mins later a total u-turn. Micheal Give then in BBC doing a u-turn and says they can and he wasnt clear on GMB.

What the fuck is he doing on TV if he doesnt know what this means.

Why are they making things so difficult???

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 24/03/2020 07:52

He is on BBC Breakfast atm and has been asked about it. He admitted he was unclear on GMB and has now clarified that children under the age of 18 can be transferred between parents. He thanked Dan Walker for the opportunity to clarify the situation.

Heihei · 24/03/2020 07:52

He is a mega prick.

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 24/03/2020 07:54

He wasnt unclear on GMB I watched it.

He said children whose parents are separated must stay with the parent, they are with now. Only, where medical need means they need to be moved, then its allowed.

He was absolutely clear. My ds can not go to his dads.

Then said the opposite on BBC.

He wasnt unclear. He was wrong.

Yes, he was wrong the first time, but correct the second.
He really should not have made an error like that.

But the correct version is now clear:

DC (under 18s) can see both parents

.

prh47bridge · 24/03/2020 08:13

To be fair to Gove, looking at the official guidance it looks like allowing children under 18 to see both parents was an afterthought. It has been added as a footnote to the "medical need/care for a vulnerable person" category. So presumably he wasn't aware of this when he did the GMB interview but someone pointed it out to him before BBC Breakfast. But yes, it would clearly have been better if he hadn't got it wrong on GMB.

Lonelycrab · 24/03/2020 08:13

Fuck sake all we need now is this kind of confusion. Perhaps you’re not so bright as you think, eh Govey....

But thankfully it’s ok- been causing me and ex quite a lot of stress this bit.

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 24/03/2020 08:14

WinnieTheW0rm exactly.

He clearly came off air a dn was told he was wrong.

So why not say that on BBC. I would have more respect for him if he had just admitted he was wrong.

Rather than saying he was unclear and thanking someone for the opportunity to clear it up. Thank them for the opportunity to correct themsleves.

People would have more respect for MPs, if they just admitted they were wrong.

@prh47bridge sorry, but the guidance from the government (the late night amendment) was read to him.

He claimed that meant only in extreme circumstances should children be moved between parents. He spoke about it for a while and was categorical that he had it correct. Even when it was pointed out it wasnt.

Then DR hilary back him up saying the government amendment was clearly saying kids could only be moved when absolutely essential. Dr hilary was talking about it implying only moving g them for medical need and to allow a key worker to work.

It was a shit show.

He could have said he wasnt sure and would clarify. Talking factually and saying you know the recommendations when you dont, then refusing to admit you were just wrong, is shitty behaviour.

Read your fucking papers Gove. That's all you have to do, and you go on TV and make it up as you go along.
