Living Situation

Morning everyone

We are in a bit of a situation and it is making me sick with worry. Back in January we started work on our house. 2 weeks ago we made a decision to move out for a week because it was getting impossible for the work to be done and for us to stay living there. We moved onto a Parkdean caravan park not very far from us. Friday it became obvious that the house still wasn't going to be ready (no bathroom, kitchen, heating, water etc) so I spoke to the caravan park and they said we could stay another week. Sunday it was announced that caravan parks had to close! This sent me into a total panic. We have no family near by and with the current situation I wouldn't want to compromise anyone nor for us and our children to be compromised in anyway so staying with friends simply isn't an option. Anyway I spoke the the managers of the holiday park and although it is closed they are letting us stay until Friday at the very latest but we have to leave by then. My builder is aware of the situation and I have asked him to get the bathroom fitted, heating and water at the very least just so as we can move back in by Friday but I'm not 100% convinced this is going to happen. I have no idea what we are going to do. I have a 14 year old and a 9 year old and as much as I am trying to remain upbeat for them this is worrying me so much. Does anyone have any advice?

That sounds very unsettling. If your builder can’t get the essentials of water, sewage disposal and heating back in place, could you put out a notice on NextDoor or a local Facebook page asking for help? It does feel like this would be essential work in terms of providing a basic safe living environment.

Lots of tradespeople use Nextdoor in our area.

I’d recommend contacting your local council housing dept today for advice. They might be able to intervene to instruct the park to permit you to stay put until your house is habitable, or some other solution.

That’s a good idea.

Thanks for your comments and advice. The park kicked us off of site yesterday after Boris' announcement on Monday. We've had to break all the rules and come and stay with friends. They have an annexe separate to the house so we are able to keep our distance. Still not ideal and I just want to be home.
