Children still having to go to school

How are they feeling?

Ds will have to go he thankfully seems quite relaxed about it all I’m hoping and guessing there shall be quite a few in his year

Please this isn’t a thread to tell me I don’t have to work or there are other ways (I do and I’m on my own) I feel stressed and guilty enough

My two really enjoyed it yesterday. There were only 7 kids at school but they made new friends and got to try some different things - older one (8) was shown by science teacher how to make circuits and younger one (4) played in the library. Don’t feel guilty. We are all doing what we have to do. School is normality.

Mine has a blast yesterday. The staff were great, made it fun but I think the routine was a comfort, they also spent a lot of time outside doing sport which was good too. I know what you mean about the guilt though. But we can only do our best.

Thank you olympicsrock that’s reassuring to hear.

Ds is in year 7. Yes school is normality I think they will try to make it as fun as possible along with some school work

I work in a school, and my children have to go with me. All the children seemed to have a lovely time yesterday, and we did our very best to make sure they were safe - small groups, seated with space between them, lots of outdoor play, plenty of hand washing and cleaning everything as we go. We have plenty of activities planned, and we are all glad that we can help in some way.

I'm really looking forward to mine going. They are both poorly now and in self isolation, but once better will be going. They claim they'd rather be at home and have moaned a bit as "all my friends get to be at home", but I think they are really lucky to be going. They are some of the few kids who will get some normality and social interaction. Plus they will be far more stimulated and get far more exercise than if they were at home on the computer while I work from home. They are too young to fully understand that isolation and lack of exercise daily will do them no good in the long run, and their freiends at home will soon get very bored. Don't feel guilty, feel really really lucky and pleased for them to have this opportunity.

@fedupwiththistoday If you are working from home your children must be at home with you! I’d be very surprised if any headteacher allowed them into school. Schools are only offering emergency childcare for key workers who cannot make alternative arrangements. The safest place for your children is at home.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 24/03/2020 06:39

If you are working from home you should not be sending children to school!!

You may be taking the place from a dr or nurse who really needs the care for their child.

This is not about providing routine for your children- it's not routine its emergency childcare.

You are risking yours and others health.

I'm a teacher I have to work - I have friends who are frontline nhs and police who were both working yesterday and had to send children in for part of the day - as parents they hated putting their children in that environment and not being able to keep them home and safe.

I am now worrying everyday what am I taking home to my family.

How many times will people have to be told if you work from home your kids stay with you

QueenCuntyFlippers · 24/03/2020 06:39

I echo that. I cannot believe that some parents haven't listened.
The children should only go to school as a EMERGENCY and they cannot be looked after safely at home. FFS 🙄

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/03/2020 07:07

I feel some on here are being deliberately provocative I have seen this on a number of threads and as far I have heard from others parents are having to show id and proof that they are keyworkers

OP my post wasn't directed at you - it was a pp that admitted to wfh but still using the emergency childcare

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 24/03/2020 07:29

Yes I know I feel some are positing on threads like this to be deliberately provocative we all know the rules

I totally understand why you responded and are angry/frustrated

And thank you it’s such a difficult time last thing we need is being being selfish tears or being deliberately obtuse
