For all apart from emergency appts anyway. So braces won't be tightened for fuck knows how long. Is this an issue?

Two of mine have been having treatment for a couple of years now, its a marathon not a sprint. It will be fine. They usually have 6-8 weeks between appointments anyway, so a lot could change in that time.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 24/03/2020 01:29

Seriously? We are trying to save hundreds of thousands of lives here. Two ENT surgeons are in critical care fighting for their lives having caught corona by looking in someone’s mouth. And your kids teeth might take a bit longer to get straight? Get a grip!

Jonb6 · 24/03/2020 01:31

The Dentist Council advised closure.

viques · 24/03/2020 01:33

presumably unless they break somehow your child's teeth will stay at the position they presently are until things change, or your dentist develops 2metre long robotic arms.

WatcherintheRye · 24/03/2020 01:37

You are allowed to be concerned about things other than coronavirus....

Op, you needn't worry that your ds teeth will revert to their old position. I think the only implication would be that they will just stay in the position they've reached until they're tightened again, as another poster said. I'm sure it'll be fine.

It isn't an unreasonable question to ask OP but if your dc needed to be seen for medical reasons they would be.
If their appointments are being canceled it is because there isn't a medical for them.

TannatTart · 24/03/2020 02:26

Avamiah you should be banned.

PotholeParadise · 24/03/2020 02:28

but I’m probably going to get banned now .

Then don't be quite so aggressive, darling.

Titsywoo · 24/03/2020 23:04

Thanks @viques and @WatcherintheRye thats all i needed to know. My ds is on the autistic spectrum so sensory wise the braces can be hard for him at times but luckily all ok at the moment. I of course appreciate the situation currently calls for closure i was just a bit worried. Glad i didn't see the deleted message as (like everyone) i can do without more shit right now Flowers

Titsy my autistic Ds was due to have his first brace put on in April, obviously now cancelled.

He was due to sit his his gcses this year as well. When we got the date for the brace I was worried about how he would cope with the sensory issues around the brace and the exams, how things have changed!

greenemerald · 24/03/2020 23:21

How long has he had the brace on for? I think it'll be okay OP. We usually see patients from anything from 6-12w in some cases. We're also only open for emergencies so if he has any problems with breakages/discomfort then to call up and get seen. It's a pretty high risk job, being in such close contact with an open mouth so understandly practices are having to reduce their services for non-essential appointments.

Smallinthesmoke · 24/03/2020 23:30

My DD went to the orthodontist 2 weeks ago and I specifically asked this question, will there be a problem with her teeth if she can't see you for 4 months or so?
He said no, the wire between the teeth on her train tracks actually degrades so it won't cause problems.
I guess the most important thing to do is to make sure teeth remain well brushed as you can't get to the hygienist.

Titsywoo · 27/03/2020 00:08

@greenemerald he has had it on for just under 3 months - 7th jan it first went on then tightened on 19th feb. Totally understand the surgeries need to be shut. I guess if we are in lockdown for say 3 months they will have a lot of people to see so it could be this adds 4 months to his treatment time.

Dd had two teeth out last week in prep for her brace. Looks like she’ll be gappy for quite a while now.
