But I can find an answer anywhere and I struggle to understand when a lot of information is thrown into the mix!

My partner had a text from NHS tonight as unfortunately he falls into the high risk category.
He will need to inform work tomorrow as he needs to be off for 12 weeks.
My question is if he will get the 80% pay the government were talking about.

At the moment his work is still open unless they say something about it tomorrow. I'm only asking as someone told me it's only if the company has to shut they would get the 80%.

Sorry if this makes no sense. I can't seem to process the information I need the most! 🤬.

Only posting so you don’t feel alone.
It’s not very clear yet.
I’m not sure but wouldn’t the 12 weeks off be on medical grounds unless he can wfm? So part or all would be paid according to company policy.
If the company ceases to operate due to this crisis then he’d qualify for the 80 % pay.

I think potentially his employers can furlough him on 80%+ pay OR treat it as sick leave and in that scenario he gets at least SSP.

I suspect it’s more likely to be the sick pay route.

He won’t be left with nothing, though.

www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay

If they put him on sick pay, and your wages are low or you’re not working, you can also claim tax credit or UC top up.

Obviously HR in the morning will be best places to answer.

The company have to furlough staff, an employee cannot request it. The company can only do this if it avoids making the staff member redundant during the crisis period.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 24/03/2020 01:18

The 80% is for companies that can no longer operate or would have to lay off staff (ie restaurants). This will fall under the companies normal sick pay scheme, which will be stated in his contract, if/when he’s not eligible for that he’ll get SSP

Thank you for your replies. Hopefully today it will be a bit more clear when he speaks to his workplace. I'm not sure if they will shut can't say what he does as it would be outing.
I do work yes. Currently on maternity and was due to o back next month but they have now shut work down.
