I've got flights booked for the end of July, so I hope so!! In my mind we are going to fly... This can't last that long, surely

kittykat7210 · 23/03/2020 23:08

There’s hope... but I wouldn’t expect it by any means, I think we’re looking at September at the absolute earliest.

Goingtogetflamed · 23/03/2020 23:08

None. Even if the urgent medical issues have subsided we’ll be left with a decimated global economy.
Sorry.

Disquieted1 · 23/03/2020 23:09

I have no insights. However I hope that the hot weather will blow it away.
Normal winter flu (yes, I know it's not the same) regresses in summer only to reappear in winter.

It would be a tragedy if younger people can not take up university placements or roles in the military or whatever.

definitelygc · 23/03/2020 23:09

Zero chance. We won't find a cure or a vaccine in 3 months.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2020 23:09

Honestly? I doubt it, unfortunately. I'm also thinking September at the earliest.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/03/2020 23:10

Not a chance. To think otherwise is absurd.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 23/03/2020 23:11

Unlikely.

Greendin · 23/03/2020 23:11

China have had it since 31 December, it's nearly three months later and it's still there so I think the answer will be "no".

willdoitinaminute · 23/03/2020 23:12

We are going to have a massive number of cases over the coming months but not everyone will get it. No country in their right mind will be letting you in if they have reduced their own infection rate. Unless they have developed a cast iron test to see if you are immune or a carrier. You may even need health certificates to travel. Or an endorsement on your passport.

Goawayquickly · 23/03/2020 23:12

Absolutely not unfortunately. I think this will be a cha cha for a while, a release and pull back / monitor situation while a cure / vaccination is worked on.

TheABC · 23/03/2020 23:13

I would love it for it to be over by June. Realistically, it's more likely to be later in the year.

CommunistLegoBloc · 23/03/2020 23:13

No.

CommunistLegoBloc · 23/03/2020 23:14

Realistically, it's going to be 18 months minimum with potential lifts of the lockdown in the summer months, with it coming back for autumn.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 23/03/2020 23:14

I also think the fact that it is spreading like wildfire in countries far warmer than ours does not bode well for the warm(ish) weather here carrying it off, if anyone is hoping for a summer eradication.

fedup21 · 23/03/2020 23:14

Is there evidence that hot weather blows it away? Surely China, Italy and Iran are warmer than here?

Dennisreynoldsduster · 23/03/2020 23:17

I think people are hugely naive if they still think they are merrily flying off on holiday this summer
I don’t understand how people can see what’s happening in other counties and still be under this impression!
Sorry OP I don’t think things will start getting back to “normal” until closer to Christmas
I had a similar thread recently and some people were saying 18 months to 2 years!

Wanderlust21 · 23/03/2020 23:18

Nah the sun doesnt kill this one :(

I think it's inevitable that it will be around for many years to come. Chances are most of us are gonna get it in our lifetime. It's the new flu. Only worse.

PickAChew · 23/03/2020 23:19

Nah.

user1471447924 · 23/03/2020 23:19

Lol.

Dongdingdong · 23/03/2020 23:20

It’ll all be over by Christmas...

screamer1 · 23/03/2020 23:20

I wonder if there's a way that people will learn to manage it whilst also maintaining some kind of reality? Wishful thinking I suppose

I suspect that an antibody test will allow people with proven short term immunity to trickle back into normal life, but 3 months will be pushing it.

Blibbyblobby · 23/03/2020 23:21

Only if lots of people die. The "flattening the curve" attempt is all about making it last longer with fewer daily cases and deaths so the country isn't overwhelmed. God knows how many of us will lose our jobs though.

SuperFurryDoggy · 23/03/2020 23:26

It’s taken hold in India now, average daily temperatures around 34 deg C during the day and 27 at night.

However, people do naturally socially distance a bit more as more time is spent outdoors over the summer months, so if we weren’t already in lockdown, it might have slowed a bit for that reason alone.

I have heard convincing arguments that we’ll have 3 ‘peaks’ the last and most deadly of which will be around November. Then herd immunity (hopefully, assuming some post viral immunity) will slow things until a vaccine can be found.

Of course it’s all pure speculation though, so who knows?
