You can still shop for food and non essentials. You can go out. You can go to work. You can go out for walks.

What is he doing??

That’s what I was thinking. I know people who work in car body shops, offices, call centres etc and they have been told they still have to go to work tomorrow ! How is that a lock down?

Helenj1977 · 23/03/2020 22:56

My 65 year old mum and 67 year old will be in work tomorrow. Both non essential roles but are still open.

I didn't think you were allowed to shop for non essentials?

somegoodnewsforonce · 23/03/2020 22:57

A lot of these businesses thinking they're still opening tomorrow are wrong and by the end of play tomorrow I expect will be closed.

Helenj1977 · 23/03/2020 22:57

Yes you are. 'Infrequently'

It's appeared on the communications.

All counties lockdown has had some freedoms. China they were allowed out every three days for essentials and Italy they have passes that allow it. Ours is a little more flexible but if people carry on with become more stringent. Australia's is more flexible but still lockdown.

somegoodnewsforonce · 23/03/2020 23:25

Shopping for basic necessities infrequently

Shops that only sell non essentials will be closed by my understanding

Not really lockdown is it...
WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/03/2020 23:38

You can still shop for food and non essentials.

Everybody can still shop for food if they really need to, (as we all need to eat) but no we can't shop for non essentials.
So your comment isn't strictly correct.

Fantasiaa · 23/03/2020 23:47

Online shopping.

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 24/03/2020 00:11

It's lockdown broadly on the same basis as Italy, France and Spain, maybe other European countries too? People have to be able to get essential food and medicine. Otherwise the government would have to put measures in place to facilitate this another way which would be more complicated. Not everyone has access to online shopping and demand is way outstripping availability at the moment.

Branster · 24/03/2020 00:24

Other countries in Europe have a similar list with curfews and strict(er) limitations and although not law and not called lockdown police have the powers to challenge, fine or arrest those who ignore the official government advice.

Hi my husband works in a bodyshop where they repair insurance based work. At the moment they are refusing to close there doors, they do not perform mot's or servicing of any kind only repairs. They also can not get any parts in to do the repairs. As most other bodyshops and parts delivery has closed due to concerns over coronvirus. They employ roughly 30 to 40 people on one site, that are in close contact with each other and a couple of the staff have had to go into self isolation, Would any one agree this is essential bussines to be open and risk there staff and there family's during the terrible time of uncerantany?

MissyJane2 · 25/03/2020 03:15

Yes we are on lockdown but it sounds more severe than what it is.
We can go out as long as it is to buy essentials or food but not for the fun of it.

We can go out for exercise or to work if we cannot work at home.
And we cannot go out in groups or more than 2 people and no gatherings or more than 2 people.

But we are still on lockdown even though it may not seem like it. Though it is not being enforced as strict as other countries.
Other counties are a lot stricter but here in the UK the government are letting us have more freedom than most other countres have.
But that could change depending on the government.

Drivemybluecar · 25/03/2020 06:13

Trouble is. As Iong as people like me are self employed and will not get paid if we don’t go to work it will continue. I don’t have a choice if I want to pay the bills or buy food.

Pishposhpashy · 25/03/2020 06:16

Are you suggesting that people should not be allowed to shop for food?

mabelbagel · 25/03/2020 06:26

No country has had lockdown to the point where people can't shop for food. People would starve to death.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/03/2020 06:29

You don’t want us shopping for food OP?

I think there has to be a balance. Eating is definitely part of that balance.

DaphneDear · 25/03/2020 06:34

Agreed. I’m a primary school secretary. My Head says I have to go in. There is very very little to do. Nothing that couldn’t be done at home. We have front line teachers in with key workers’ children but I just sit there twiddling my thumbs. DCs at home. Meanwhile I’m having to get petrol etc to get to work. Makes zero sense to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

MadameF · 25/03/2020 06:34

Mabel in China they stopped people going out shopping and delivered food to them. Hasn't happened in Europe yet as far as I know, but could.

Here in France it is stricter than the UK and many fines have been issued. The UK "lockdown" is unclear and therefore open to misinterpretation and non compliance.
