This isn't really a lockdown is it?

It's basically saying, do the things you're already been told to do or, if we catch you, you'll be asked to stop whatever it is you're doing wrong. Then we might fine you.

Friends elsewhere in the world have said their lockdowns include things like documentation which needs to be filled in each time you leave the house, only 10 customers at a time in large supermarkets, no dog walking, no outdoor exercise. What we've just been told to do is basically the same as what we've already been told.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same arses who didn't listen last time don't listen this time and in a few days we'll have the even more draconian measures seen elsewhere. Might've been better if he'd just got straight on with it and done it now, then we might get through this just a little bit faster with less strain on the NHS and fewer deaths.

The threads on here about taking kids to grandparents or nannies. People really aren’t listening.

PertEllaTitsahoy · 23/03/2020 21:30

As the weekend showed. People will use any loophole to convince themselves that the rules don't apply to them personally.

QuimJongUn · 23/03/2020 21:38

Exactly. Which is why I think he needed to go straight in with the hardline approach rather than just basically repeat what he's already said, but sitting next to a flag to make it feel like we're getting a ticking off from the headmaster.

It’s a step further, he more or less announced lockdown without actually saying the word.

Give it 48hrs of non compliance and he will be announcing all the things you mention OP.

I actually feel that the proposed way is best and think the Prime Minister has been making good choices & relying heavily on the science (as he should). I'm sure permits are easily fabricated, especially as they are printed at home. It seems like a load of faff tbh. BoJo is simply treating the British citizens as adults. I agree that not everyone is responsible enough to handle this but policing things further would likely result in unrest and rebellion/riots/looting. There's no easy way to do what needs to be done.

Yeafortwo · 23/03/2020 21:44

Who will implement the two person rule?

middleager · 23/03/2020 21:45

This is what the PM does. Pretend he's giving us a chance to behave then put is in the naughty corner.

Real lockdown can't come soon enough for me.
I'm embarrassed to be British right now.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 23/03/2020 21:50

Nope its a fuck up. Completely unenforceable

Kids gather in public... "going for a run"" thats my sister"....

Non essential work travelling a couple of hours a day in and out of tge capital ? Absolutely fine crack on.

Want to walk mount snowdon? Yep thats your one bit of exercise a day.

Fuck up

halcyondays · 23/03/2020 21:50

It’s a soft lockdown, if we’re not good children, stricter measures will be brought in before long. Similar to what’s happened in Italy.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 23/03/2020 21:51

Met police have already made a statement saying theres no clarity

Hazelnutlatteplease · 23/03/2020 21:54

Oh and thats tge other stitch up. Big mail order company, fine to stay open. Small shop who is doing local deliveries but closing their premises? Shut.

Absolutely fucking joke

I live in a block of flats and my downstairs neighbour has his entire family (kids, grandkids) over today. Smells like he's cooking them a big meal. They keep running up and down the stairs to get stuff from the car and the kids are playing in the communal hallway. Neighbour has had a hacking cough all week - we know, because he's been keeping us awake at night with it.

Our local Aldi is rammed with a second wave of panic buyers, the workmen pissing about with the pavements outside are still working and there are people walking their dogs and stopping for a natter.

Like fuck is this a lockdown.
