Can I still walk a vulnerable person’s dog for them?

Through a local self-isolation support Facebook page I was connected with a very sweet elderly lady (Ethel) who is currently unable to walk her dog (Rover). Ethel is classed as vulnerable due to her age and because she has COPD. I’ve been walking Rover, taking every precaution possible- not going closer than 2 metres from Ethel, wearing gloves, wiping the leash and handle with an antibacterial wipe before giving it back. I’ve also been dropping round the odd grocery item she needs.

My question is, does this count as going out to provide care or help to a vulnerable person? I’d like to keep doing it, if I can...

I've just asked a similar question re our own dog. I'm wondering if Ethel can just let the dog out - I suppose the risk is you visiting, even with perfect hygiene. Not great for the dog but would reduce the risk to her I think?
Very kind of you though!

I think so, I'm sure this is allowed as long as it's the only time you will go out that day

Unfortunately Ethel can’t let the dog out- she lives in a 1st floor flat of a big old converted house. Someone in her building was a confirmed case so she really can’t risk going past her own front door. I feel desperately sorry for her.

Yes. Exercise is allowed and caring for others is allowed. Just follow the social distancing guidelines.
