Do we think delivery companies will still be delivering for example I have a dining table that’s scheduled for delivery tomorrow with DHL. First world problems I’m sure but wanted it to sit up to eat/do homework with the kids etc etc. He did say online shops would stay open so do we think they’ll deliver?

Sorry if anyone finds this insensitive, I hope it’s not just curious. (Both of us in this house are key workers so doing our bit)

I think you will ok especially as its delivery for tomorrow. Just be prepared for them to leave if st your door maybe?

31weeksgone · 23/03/2020 21:19

I’d be happy for them to throw it at me at this rate, just would really like it. How silly is it tiny items like a dining table will make this whole thing easier.

Yeah I understand, well do give an update tomorrow

31weeksgone · 23/03/2020 21:23

Courier companies, Royal Mail and post offices are essential services and will continue to operate as normal.

wherearemychickens · 23/03/2020 21:25

We are in the same boat with a table - keeping fingers crossed

Branster · 23/03/2020 21:27

Thats a very valid question OP not at all insensitive. I see no reason why you wouldn’t get the delivery.
Delivery people are key workers for now.
In all honesty, if people stayed put as told and online retailers and delivery companies had enough staff, then deliveries should continue but perhaps with delays.
There needs to be a mechanism to put some money back into the economy?
I’m more worried about shipments already on the water, or rail, road who might never make it pass customs if they even get to the UK. Your future tables as it were.
Commercial contracts which need to honoured but no items/materials to show for it. Insurance companies will be so busy.

cyclingmad · 23/03/2020 21:35

In the future it may be harder to order certain items as raw materials to make them are not available

31weeksgone · 23/03/2020 21:37

Such a difficult situation for all isn’t it. Just selfishly I really hope mine turns up tomorrow Blush Thanks for all comments, I’ll comment back if it does.

I work for DHL and I've been told we're key workers. Hope that puts your mind at ease.

31weeksgone · 24/03/2020 00:14

@AnnoyedByAlfieBear thank you for reassuring me, it really does. And thank you for continuing on, it’s not easy is it! Flowers

DHL staff may be key workers, but what about the people who work in warehouses for big retailers like Amazon, John Lewis, Asos etc?

KatherineJaneway · 24/03/2020 06:13

I think they will still deliver. I'm hoping for my Amazon delivery today.

slipperywhensparticus · 24/03/2020 06:17

He said to order online to me that implies it is all going to still be moving through the system

hiddenmnetter · 24/03/2020 06:25

I should think they are, they fall under this category:

Food and other necessary goods. This includes those involved in food production, processing, distribution and sale, as well as those essential to the provision of other key goods (e.g. hygiene, medical etc)

I’m not sure furniture can be classed as “key goods” though - or buying clothes from somewhere like Asos for example.

For anyone that’s even the tiniest bit interested, I now have my dining table which will make isolation so much easier Grin so thank you all!

(I did order before lockdown though for anyone that’s wondering, I didn’t deem it essential after lockdown)
