Kids vaccination schedule

My three year old is due to have his vaccinations next week. It seems really risky to take him to a surgery to see a nurse that has seen loads of other kids and their parents that same day. Do you think these will be cancelled? Should I ask for them to be delayed? Or just go? I'm so confused!

I’d delay them. I don’t think they need to be dead on when they’re due and you can have a few months grace. It’s the last lot of a couple of years so shouldn’t affect any future ones.

My DD(3) is due hers on Thursday. I spoke to the clinic today and they were very understanding when I said I wanted to delay until this is over (or at least until after things have settled down even if it isn't 'over').

I was wondering about this too. My 3mo twins have their final set of the first lot in a fortnight. I don't know whether timing us more crucial for these. Their big sister has her 3yo ones a couple of weeks afterwards. I'll be calling the surgery next week to see what they say.

Frankly, though, we could be waiting months and months, couldn't we? Possibly up to a year. And then there will likely be a backlog. I honestly don't know what's best.

I think I would cancel, I should be making one year old DS’s soon and I won’t be. He isn’t seeing anyone so won’t be exposed to anything anyway.

RoseGoldEagle · 23/03/2020 21:40

I will delay them that is, I don’t mean I won’t ever be, just not until this is all over

I took my 4mo to have his final mmr meningitis ones yesterday. The GP surgery was closed except for the most vital appts and there was only 2 other people there (this is in london). She asked me to wash my hands when I got there too.

I also thought about delaying but i felt these were slightly more time sensitive.

Personally, I'd still get them done but I'd understand why you wouldn't want to.

My 14 year old was due to have his MMR booster last week at school. He was ill.and so were 1/3 of his year so off school.

God knows when they will be done now. Does anybody know if he'll still have immunity for a while? The school were late any way as my other year 9 had his months ago (at a different school).

The thing is, if he had had a reaction we wouldn't have known if it was the virus or vaccine.

BillyAndTheSillies · 24/03/2020 07:47

We had DS2's 16 week immunisation booked for last Thursday but we are self isolating with symptoms.

They've already been delayed because of Christmas and he picked up viral infections and bronchiolitis so he's already 6 months. The nurse wasn't concerned and we will rebook once our self isolation is over.

Like a PP said, our children won't be exposed to anyone else at the moment so it should be ok to delay.

My mum is vulnerable and is due her flu jab (nz).

She will drive to doctors, stay in her car, and nurse will give her vaccine while she stays in car.

Not suitable for everyone but I like the way they are limiting unnecessary interaction, and getting things done.

DD had her 12 month ones yesterday. I called earlier in the week to check if they were still on and they said yes, all childhood vaccinations were considered very important and going ahead, and yesterday the nurse called me to check we had no coughs or temps. There was one doctor and one nurse in the whole surgery and we were the only patients.
