If we go into lockdown...

Can we still go for a walk? We have no garden and a very active toddler. Would it still be ok to get fresh air once a day? We live in a fairly rural area.

I doubt it. Lockdown is just that I guess. Apart from getting food shopping that will be it.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 23/03/2020 19:40

I'm in NYC, we're on lockdown and you're allowed to go for a walk, to go to the supermarket and to take your dogs out. You just have to respect social distancing and not congregating.

The police will break up gaggles of people loitering, but they don't bother you if you're just mooching about.

CathyandHeathcliff · 23/03/2020 19:40

Oh god! I can’t imagine this. He’s going to go stir crazy 😢 my anxiety is through the roof

It depends. We're in Italy, no walks allowed.

Squashpocket · 23/03/2020 19:43

Are countries currently in lockdown allowed amazon deliveries?

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 19:45

Amazon only doing deliveries of essential items atm (in Italy). I don't know exactly what this means.

BBCONEANDTWO · 23/03/2020 19:46

If someone lives in a house without a garden they should be allowed to go out IMO - that's cruelty if not.

blue25 · 23/03/2020 19:47

Not every country is allowing walks, so be prepared for that.

CathyandHeathcliff · 23/03/2020 19:47

I was only thinking of walking by the canal with the pushchair or to the nature reserve and moorland nearby

Darbs76 · 23/03/2020 19:48

Probably. Boris will make it clear I’m sure

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 19:49

@BBCONEANDTWO that's not really practical though as if you live in a flat you are frequently surrounded by other flats so if everyone went out it would be very crowded!

midgebabe · 23/03/2020 19:49

Can you dance? I remember Music and manic dancing to wear mine out

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 19:49

Also it would mean that the police would have to stop everyone and check whether they had a garden - how would that work?!

Peanut55 · 23/03/2020 19:52

Everyone this weekend was just going for a walk. That's why we had hoards of people. It doesn't work.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 23/03/2020 19:53

Everyone should be allowed to go for a walk. Honestly, I'm not keen on staying alive in a world where people have to stay indoors all the time.
Any Italians on the thread, how do you survive? Especially knowing it's likely to be 12 - 18 months?

I'm not Italian but I'm in Italy. I don't think it will be that long! Shock As for coping...you just have to.

CathyandHeathcliff · 23/03/2020 19:55

How about taking dogs for a walk?

OP posts:
Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 19:56

Also it gets easier with time. The first few days of lockdown I woke up in the night with panic attacks and felt claustrophobic. Now it feels almost normal.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 23/03/2020 19:56

What's the psychology of it? When my bairns were little and I lived in a flat, this would almost certainly have tipped me over the edge. I was already having suicidal thoughts

Reginabambina · 23/03/2020 20:05

I was just wondering today how long it would be before there’d be reports of suicides/murders coming from Italy. can you tell that I’ve got two kids and am not a key worker?

allfurcoatnoknickers · 23/03/2020 20:46

@CathyandHeathcliff Can't speak for Italy but dog walking allowed in NYC.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 21:15

Dog walking is allowed in Italy within reason.
