Sanitising food packaging

Just heard a friend is sanitising all food packaging when returning from the shops! Seriously? Should I?

I'm considering doing the same when I get my food delivered, but that's so far away that I'll likely have starved to death by then (joking kind of).

Anything metal like tins I am.

Ruddle91 · 23/03/2020 19:01

I am. Anything that comes in is sanitised in the porch. I am in the super vulnerable group and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I am also still recovering from a bacterial pneumonia on diseased lungs. I am seeing nobody and working from home.

SubordinateThatClause · 23/03/2020 19:03

Ok - thanks! Hadn't even considered it.

I’m sanitising fridge and freezer stuff and everything else goes into quarantine for at least 3 days.

Mind you, earlier today I felt compelled to wash a satsuma with anti-bac hand wash for at least 20 seconds so quite honestly my judgement of what’s actually necessary might be a bit flawed Grin

Frigginella · 23/03/2020 19:07

I would if I had enough anti-bac. But I have 1/4 of my spray left. And I work 4 days a week out of the house. I did use it on my milk delivery as they are collecting bottles also on their rounds so this felt risky.
I don’t fancy using diluted bleach on my shopping

abisothergran · 23/03/2020 19:12

Washing milk and juice cartons with warm soapy water should be effective-don't need to use antibacterial which may not be antiviral.

Realitea · 23/03/2020 19:14

I dilute bleach and give everything a bit of a ‘packaging bath’ before putting it away. Also with post I wear gloves and put the envelopes straight in the bin.

Babyroobs · 23/03/2020 19:15

Yes of course. Anything that the virus can live on for any length of time is a hazard. I wipe down everything with antibac wipe - packets, tins, bottles etc. Unless it can be tipped straight out of packaging for example apples In a plastic bag, then it gets wiped down.

Oh God. We're stuffed.
