Self isolating and Type 1 Diabetes

My adult son is a Type 1 diabetic, he was on the original list as being vulnerable and needing to self isolate for twelve weeks. He informed his work and they said to go ahead with it.
This morning they texted him about going in and have sent him a new list of conditions with diabetes not now being listed as a condition on the list.
Is he supposed to work or not ? He works in a supermarket on the shop floor although he doesn't serve customers.

No advice but following as I’m in exactly the same position, 32 with type 1. For weeks now it’s been “type 1 diabetes in high risk category” all of a sudden it’s not? It’s meant I can’t self isolate as work won’t pay me if I’m not on this list. I have to carry on going in.

Hi, type 1 diabetics were never told to self isolate, they were told to social distance and work from home where possible. Unfortunately he will need to go to work. This is my understanding anyway, I’m also a type 1 diabetic.

Thanks for replying.
I thought they were on the list originally as being high risk and being classed as vulnerable.
He is planning to go in to work. His diabetes is well managed if that makes a difference.
I think I'm more worried than he is.

It’s crazy thst it’s not on the list, it’s the second most high risk condition on worldometer, second only to cardiovascular diseases. It’s even higher than things like cancer. It’s baffling really

It's a social distance thing I'm afraid.
Follow Partha Kar diabetes professor on Twitter. He explains it well.

Thanks for replying.
It does seem odd it's not on the list, I wonder if they might add it later on.
I will check out that Professor on Twitter, I'd not heard of him.

There is the extremely vulnerable list
And the vulnerable list
Simple diabetes is on the second list
So extreme social distancing. Any employer worth their salt should be giving you options to ensure you can effectively self isolate

Mine let me work from home for over a week ago, and someone delivered equipment to me at home

Emilyismyfavourite · 23/03/2020 22:50

He has to work on the shop floor of a major supermarket, so it will be impossible to work from home and probably hard to maintain extreme social distancing.

Type 1 here, going to work at the train station still. Just keeping away from people as much as poss and avoiding public transport

midgebabe · 24/03/2020 08:25

Can he ask to be reassigned to office, or offer to do overnight cleaning and stocking
I think the rules might allow his boss to put him to pastur and claim government support?

I’m type 1 too, and if I wasn’t early pregnant (!) I was planning to keep working as normal (frontline NHS worker). As it is, I am probably going to be off until at least 12weeks/through the first trimester, as I really want to avoid getting ill due to the difficulty of controlling blood sugars during the illness and the importance of stable sugars in early pregnancy. Work have been pretty supportive tbh, although I have mixed feelings about being off at this time.

Emilyismyfavourite · 24/03/2020 21:36

No I don't think he could be moved.
I don'tknow if his work are very supportive, one manager was but he's now left.
Hopefully customers will pay attention to how much space they leave between them and him.
