You'll be best looking on the government website if we go into lockdown, because for the countries that are in lockdown now, they all have different rules, and those rules change over time.

lubeybooby · 23/03/2020 14:33

Try looking at the various 'in frnce/spain/italy on lockdown ask me anything' posts

in other countries it seems to be

Stay inside

one person allowed out for groceries when needed, unless you have no one to look after kids, then kids can go

dogs can be taken for a very short walk (less than 50m from your house) for toileting purposes

If you have horses at a livery, the yard owner is expected to care for them

permitted reasons to be out include - going to work, medical appointments and grocery trips

all enforced by local police with financial fines.

slavetolife · 23/03/2020 15:06

Hmm, I hope they don't try to enforce the livery rule here, the owner of the yard where we keep our horses is in his 80's and no way capable of looking after our horses!!

DH has friends in Italy. They are on a legally enforced curfew so can only leave the house at certain times and when they do leave the house they have to have a reason to I.e going to work if they are a ‘key worker’ (DH’s friend is a nurse for example) or to visit a pharmacy/supermarket. Other than those two exceptions, they are not permitted to leave the house. Police and army are paroling the streets and anyone found to break the rules will be prosecuted, I read that 71000 have already been arrested.

LooseGoose29 · 23/03/2020 15:17

We don't know what it would look like here until it is announced.
I am a bit worried about it,as school staff, because some countries have closed schools completely even for children of keyworkers. We have a lot of 2 keyworker families (including my own).

crapette · 23/03/2020 15:46

It differs from country to country.

The rules will be whatever the government decides.

They will apply to everyone.

Here in France we can basically go to the supermarket, pharmacy and doctor. If you are going to work you need a form from your employer.

You can walk your dog and go for a run but you must stay close to home.

Cycling is prohibited.

Only one person per car.

You must have a new signed, dated and timed piece of paper with you for every trip.

135 euro spot fine for a first offence. Much higher fine for a second offence and potentially 6 months in prison for a third.

It isn't optional. No going to visit friends for a coffee or taking a drive to the seaside.

Rowgtfc72 · 23/03/2020 16:06

@crapette
Could you tell me why cycling is prohibited? I bike five miles to work, am a keyworker and have no other means of transport so a little worried!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 23/03/2020 16:10

IF lockdown was to happen, then the government will set out the rules online for you to read.

Nobody can answer this now, all your get from this thread is people guessing which let’s face isn’t really helpful at all

Cameron2012 · 23/03/2020 16:21

When we go into lockdown will I beable to drop food to my mum?
If not what happens to her?

crapette · 23/03/2020 16:26

Just to clarify (apologies) cycling for leisure is prohibited.
I'm sure it is allowed if that is how you get to work/shops.

It was initially allowed for exercise - in moderation and staying close to home, but clearly people started taking the piss. A lot of people round here take their cycling very seriously.

The same with walking dogs or going for a run. It was initially OK to carry on as normal, but exercise is now restricted to within 2kms of your home (your form must include your home address) and you can take the dog out to pee/poo but you can't go far from your house.

We are in the middle of nowhere, so it would be easy for us to do the whole "....but we never see a single human being for miles and there is almost no traffic (apart from the odd tractor)..." but there is no way that there can be different rules for everyone, so everyone ends up with the most draconian rules to allow for the "surely they don't apply to me" brigade.

You are, of course, allowed to travel if you have elderly/disabled relatives to care/shop for, but this needs to be rigourously documented. You can't just make stuff up - your reason for being out has to be clearly stated on the form you carry.

We are very rural so it might be more helpful to look on the existing threads for a balanced view from others living less remotely.

There is at least one Spanish thread too.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 23/03/2020 16:53

How would the one person per car work? I'm vulnerable so can't take the bus, so DH would need to drop me at work: essential worker.

crapette · 23/03/2020 17:10

@Babysharkdoodoodood

That would be OK here as long as it was backed up with the relevant documentation.

There will always be people who can't comply for all sorts of perfectly valid reasons and it is usually possible to evidence this.

What doesn't work - clearly evidenced by this weekend in the UK and some initial piss-taking by French residents - is some sort of wishy-washy "advice" or "recommendations" as everyone then assumes that it actually doesn't apply to them.

Rowgtfc72 · 23/03/2020 17:10

@crapette thanks for that!

Fedupandpoor · 23/03/2020 17:17

Are non essential workers still allowed into work? Ex DP works in a parcel sorting office and was asking if he would have to stop work. He's not from England so I'm having to translate all this to him.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 17:19

I'm in Italy and wrote a thread about lockdown a few days ago. Basically, you can go out for medicine, food or essential work. You can go out to walk your dog if you are close to home. If you go to a shop, you have to keep your distance from everyone else. No cycling, running or walking for sport/leisure. I think most people are complying - but then again I haven't been out for ages so what do I know! Last time I went out there were police at the end of our road, checking ID and reasons to be out.

maneandfeathers · 23/03/2020 17:23

The horse thing is very worrying.

Our yard owner is ancient and hasn’t a clue about horses. We would not be able to care for 100 horses singlehandedly. Confused
