Babies and interaction

I have locked myself and my baby in for almost a week now.

Is anybody else worried about their baby missing out on social interaction? What can we do? She is a very sociable baby and I'm worried it's going to damage her development if she is only seeing me and DH for the next god knows how long Sad

Any child psychologists out there to advise?

I'm not a child phycologist but I wrote this on a couple of threads as very worried too. My DD is 8 months and absolutely loves people. On the threads I wrote on people were very reassuring, and my mum who has had five said how adaptable babies are. I know that may not help but you are not alone, a lot of us our feeling the same. @mylittleavalon thank you very much. It does make me feel better. I know all of us are in the same boat but I do worry about the long term impact. Hope you and your little one are ok x

Following as this is a concern for us too, our DS is also 8 months and due to a lot of family stuff we’d only just started joining baby sensory etc

Babies under 3 don't "need" social interaction with other children, although it's nice to have, she will be fine as long as you continue to talk with her and play with her. She wont remember and it's not forever. I would be more worried about older kids.

My DS was born poorly and had surgery on his respiratory system and oesophagus. He was an autumn baby and we were advised to keep him away from colds for the first six months as they could be very serious for him. We barely went out and he socialised with me, DH, my Mum and his brother. He missed out on baby groups, watching other children play, even a lot of shopping trips in the pushchair. But he’s now two and a half and very social. Language development is good and he has hit all of his milestones. It’s not ideal but for us no long term damage has been done to his social development.

Obviously this virus is a huge worry for us. But I’m not worried about the isolation as I know first hand that health is the main thing.

I have a baby now and older DS.
With DS I was convinced I needed all the groups etc

Now 2nd time around i know that it will make no difference. Make sure you are talking to them and they will be fine once we can go out again x

It's not the same but put the tv on occasionally, babies really don't know the difference. Toddler here keeps trying to pass toys through the screen.

Babies don’t need social interaction, all they need is interaction with their parents, lots of talking, eye contact, etc. Babies aren’t ‘sociable’ like older children, they couldn’t care less about baby sensory and rhyme time. I did all the groups with my first child but it was more for me and because I felt I had to. Your baby will be just fine.
