Text message from NHS for DD

Hello, hoping so one can help.

Just received a message from the NHS Coronavirus Service saying they have identified that I’m someone at risk of severe illness if you catch Coronavirus.

I suspect the message is for my DD who is 5 years old and has severe asthma. I don’t have any underlying health conditions.

I will of course be keeping her home for the next 12 weeks as advised however the message has stated to keep at least 3 steps away from other people in the household. Obviously with a 5 year this will not be possible.

My concern is as a key worker I am still working in quite close proximity to the general public. There are other people who could take over my role without it affecting the service we provide.

I’m afraid of bringing the virus home to her. Although I want to do my bit for everyone I’m worried that she will get seriously ill if she catches anything from me.

Should I stop working and self isolate with her? If I do stop would I still get paid? I can’t really afford not too but obviously I it means keeping her safe it’s something I will do.

I would self isolate as well especially if you can’t get someone to cover you. I’m not sure if you’re entitled to any pay if you stay at home.

All the best

I don’t think the NHS is paying unless you are either ill or self isolating because someone in your house is. The last guidance we had was that if you are taking time off to care for someone else it’s unpaid.

@Cockola @keymay

Thanks for your replies.

I will be staying home for 3 months, decided it's not worth the risk. I've managed to source cover for the duration so the service will remain the same.
