Supermarket / food ideas

Okay so there are lots of issues with supermarkets and deliveries etc.

Competition rules have been relaxed so all the supermarkets can now talk to each other to work together.

Couple of ideas I'm hoping they are considering.

  1. In larger areas with lots of stores, turn some stores into specific kinds of stores. What i mean is either close the store and have it click and collect only. Or for example have an NHS worker only store etc.
  1. With all these premises shutting, turn these into collection points for supermarket orders in some way. Use the existing staff where possible.

Are these completely mad ideas? Oh and yes I know it won't work e.g. in sparsely populated areas, and there will always be exceptions, but would it help in more built up areas?

I agree shops should work together. for example, clothes retailer like NEXT can help to delivery food? I doubt many people are ordering clothes at the moment.

Supermarket move or recruit more people to do the click and collect, so nobody need to go into the store? This will also help reducing the risk for retailer staff.

Supermarkets often don't have enough storage space in warehouses. Maybe local shut down business could become temporary spare depots?

I doubt many people are ordering clothes at the moment.

My mother has just text me saying she's bored so is ordering clothes online as the shops have shut but still ordering online. I do wonder actually how many people may do that. But also if the option is between eating and clothing, I suspect the latter may start waning demand.

Maybe other retailers can help with deliveries, but are supermarket vans refrigerated?

DP and I were talking earlier as he's applied for one of these jobs due to losing his behind the scenes concert work and we concluded that the limiting factor will be van availability - they can recruit lots of extra drivers and maybe expand delivery slots to, say, 6 am to midnight, but they only have so many vans and won't be able to get extra suitable ones quickly, I would have thought.

Yes they usually have fridges / freezers but maybe they can offer specific non-chilled deliveries?
