A&E doctor friend : Situation much worse than being reported
HerstoryInTheMaking · 23/03/2020 12:45
My friend is an A&E doctor in a major South London hospital. Spoke to him on the phone after a long shift. He is telling me that this is a very very serious situation. Young people are coming in very sick, they are working at peak capacity and could very micu be overwhelmed if cases continue to rise at the cuttent rate.
He told me healthy patients no conditions needing ICU and ventilators and would be dead without them.
Please stay home people!

All the vaping and extremely heavy "End Times" drinking is going to make our youth (and overall) toll heavier, even amongst those who are otherwise healthy.
If you want to live, get off the ciggies, vape and booze.

Yes dad is frontline and has said similiar
People have no idea
Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 23/03/2020 15:21
He is right.
I've been saying it for a while now.
Youngatheart00 · 23/03/2020 15:22
Close family friend currently ventilated in a midlands ICU. Feels very real and very scary. I wonder if it is going to take someone knowing someone directly impacted for this to really sink in. I truly hope not.

I wish the real data wasn’t being hidden from us, more people would take care if they knew how severe it really is.
parrotonmyshoulder · 23/03/2020 15:26
Yes, my DH is a hospital doctor. They’ve been trying to prepare for it for weeks, knowing what’s coming.
Remmy123 · 23/03/2020 15:26
My friend is a nurse at another hospital and it is ok at the moment but they are just waiting for it all to kick off
CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/03/2020 15:27
Yes, I think things are really escalating now and people will soon be regretting ignoring the social distance rules when they start hearing of friends and families having to be hospitalised, and possibly not coming home again.
covetingthepreciousthings · 23/03/2020 15:36
I listened to the phone in from the consultant Dr Jack on LBC yesterday, it was truly harrowing to listen to what he had to say
HerstoryInTheMaking · 23/03/2020 16:27
I too wish the govt would release more data about this. I think the more transparent the govt is the better when it comes to this.

I’m an inpatient at a SE London hospital at the moment, having been admitted via A&E on Saturday night. All the doctors and nurses, including the surgeon who operated on me, commented on how quiet it is at the moment as people are staying away. Certainly the ward I’m on is far from full.
Falangalangadingdang · 23/03/2020 16:38
I've got a doctor friend too and they've told it like it is. Utterly utterly shit.
Stay at home people.
TooMuchBloodyChoice · 23/03/2020 16:39
Our local hospital is a bit like a ghost town. ICU have beds waiting for patients and some patients already on the ward. The staff are more spooked by the quietness at the moment. They are preparing for an onslaught
zen1 · 23/03/2020 16:39
I would like to know why the serious / critical number for the UK on Worldometers hasn’t moved from 20 for days, yet more than 20 people are dying each day.
Northernsoullover · 23/03/2020 16:44
My friend is a nurse at a major teaching hospital. Its not that bad yet apparently. But it will be. However 'up the road' it is far far worse. There are still geographical hotspots.

My friend stepped on a bit of wood with a nail sticking out at the tip on Saturday. It went through her foot but she pulled it out herself and went home as she was too scared to go to A&E even though our hospital didn't have any corona cases at the time.
WorriedNHSer · 23/03/2020 17:08
@mashedpotatobrainz tell your friend to go straight to a minor injuries place to get it sorted out. Much safer than ending up with a massive infection and needing admitting to hospital.
MashedPotatoBrainz · 23/03/2020 19:27
She went to the local health centre when it opened today and saw a nurse.
