My Daughter is a doctor

On the frontline, in a major UK hospital in the Cornona Virus unit.
Currently she is treating patients as they come in, very sick but as yet unconfirmed. This morning she had to perform CPR on one such patient, but all the PPE she has is a paper mask and plastic gown. Supplies are so short that only when CV is confirmed do they move to the next ward where staff have better PPE, by which time of course the doctors and nurses have been exposed multiple times over.
She, like all the other doctors and nurses are cracking on with their jobs, but they are terrified.
I can't go and see her, but she is ringing me every day; my competent, compassionate 28 year old girl is terrified of the speed at which the patients are coming in, really sick. And she knows that several junior doctors like herself are already critically ill.

There are NO excuses for going out, unless you are out of food or you are an essential worker. None. I hope Boris locks us down totally today while there are still plenty of doctors and nurses able to work, and while the appropriately trained ones are still well... I don't want my intubation performed by a gynae!

Please stay home. Please.

I hope your DD and all the other doctors are ok. Same for all front line staff and keyworkers. Everyone really.

Please listen everyone.

I’ve not gone out for 8 days and will not go out again until I absolutely have to for essential supplies.

Please tell your daughter thank you for everything she does.

I work frontline just like your daughter.

I’m frustrated about the lack of equipment and lack of support from managers. I’m concerned at being asked to perform duties outside of my speciality that I am not fully competent or confident with. I’m scared of passing the virus onto my baby and husband, I’m worried I won’t get to see my parents for months. I’m anxious about how long this will last for, how I’ll cope with being pushed to my limits both mentally and physically at work. I’m worried about the financial implications for both my family and the economy.

Lots of my colleagues are off already either isolating due to pregnancy or have been signed off with stress and anxiety. We are working as a reduced workforce against a new virus, about to face a crisis we can barely even start to imagine.

I am hoping and praying Boris orders a full lockdown today.

Well said op - your daughter and other nhs staff are doing a fantastic job. It does annoy me to see so many people ignoring government advice.

I am only going out for food but I live in a built up area and all the other people who are just out and about in town make proper social distancing impossible.

If we do get a proper lock down, hopefully there will then be less chance of infection when we do have to go out.

Flowers for your daughter.

I'm also just going out for food now. Have DS in 14 day isolation as he lives in a house where there are suspected cases. another 2 DC in other parts of the country, one doing a phd which has been put on hold for the time being. ( he has offered to help with covid 1 testing) and another who works in a pharmacy lab. We are all staying put as much as possible. and staying in touch by Skype. I do have a friend who i texted this morning to see how she was and she replied that she was going out to get her hair done Shock so clearly people are not getting it. We need an enforced lock down.

First, I hope your DD is ok and does get the correct equipment. Its scandalous that she doesn't have it.

I am going out and I don't plan on stopping unless I have too.

I am avoiding the supermarket as much as possible and we have agreed that only one of us will go and we won't take the DC.

We went for a bike ride yesterday and we did follow social distancing instructions.

And I have just taken time kids out on their scooters, again ensuring social distancing.

Each time it has been quiet and we have kept away from others

I don't see how that is an issue?

They know they cannot go to park.

And if it was too busy we would turn back.
