What to use if no Dettol spray?

Dettol kitchen spray kills bacteria AND viruses but is obviously nowhere to be seen online. It's something that's worrying me and I'm down to me last inch or so. I'm in isolation as pregnant and asthmatic so I'm being super careful and spraying handles, keys, phones, surfaces etc.

Any ideas where you can buy anti - viral & bacterial spray? Amazon has one for £35! Although I could afford that it makes me so sick that people are cashing in so I would refuse to give them the business.

If all Dettol supplies are forever gone, are there any alternatives you can use that kill viruses?

Plus rubber gloves and cloths.
Don't spray bleach!!

safariboot · 23/03/2020 13:57

Any reasonable cleaning product. They're all effective. Washing up liquid, kitchen cleaner, bathroom cleaner, diluted bleach, whatever you've got. Some will need wiping afterwards (whereas an advantage of Dettol is you can spray and leave it.)

Obviously don't use anything really harsh like oven cleaner or drain unblocker where it's not meant for.

Thanks endofline that’s useful

Houseyhousey · 23/03/2020 13:58

Op I think you are muddling self isolation advice (DO NOT LEAVE HOME) with the stay at home/social distancing advice (fresh air is fine but maintaining the 2m distance).

If you have any symptoms or are in the high risk group you should be self isolating and that doesn't mean touching lifts, handles etc on a daily stroll Shock

Bleach

Willow2017 · 23/03/2020 14:03

Soap and water, bleach if you really need to then dry properly.

There seems to be a national obsession with Dettol, Dettol doesnt kill the CV19.

I am immunosuppressed so I have been reading all the infection control updates to try and give myself the best chance I can.
We need to leave the milton for people who need it.
My friend is expressing for her prem baby and can't get milton to sterilise her pump (which can only be sterilised with milton).

ImfinallyaMummy · 23/03/2020 14:11

What about vital baby sanitising spray? I use it and it's fab!

Mrsjayy · 23/03/2020 14:18

Can your friend not get a steam/microwave steriliser for her pump ?

endofthelinefinally · 23/03/2020 14:18

Antibacterial products do not work.
Sanitising antibac sprays are no use against viruses, particularly covid- 19.

endofthelinefinally · 23/03/2020 14:19

The pump cannot be steam sterilised. Only sterilising fluid can be used.

EasterEggz · 23/03/2020 17:02

@endof tell your friend to look on Amazon for Milton- I saw some there.

Re "you are confusing the advice and shouldn't go for a solitary walk"... @houseyhousey the government's advice is bloody useless at the moment. Johnson's full of contradictions, but as it stands they DO seem to be saying go for walks, unless you are in the sheild category announced yesterday. The fact that this is unclear speaks volumes about their message.

As I said earlier, I have to walk to a communal area to collect post and drop off rubbish, even if I skip the walks. This involves doors! Doing my best not to touch ANYTHING but don't want to take any risks.

I am hoping for a much clearer and firmer response like Macron has done for example, so let's see what today's briefing brings.

There were about 20 huge containers of milton in my farm shop so I don't feel at all bothered about buying one. I use it a lot normally anyway.
