I’m a nurse. It should be clear cut, and if I was a general nurse in hospital (ie physical illness) it would be- I couldn’t leave people to die, and at least I’d have PPE.
But I’m mental health so wouldn’t be directly helping with the current situation. I would, however, definitely be exposed as I’m based in A&E. There’s no provision to limit exposure, and PPE is for the general nurses only: I have no access to it.
If I was single and childless (so just me to worry about) I’d just get on with it. But I have teenagers, plus younger ones and a DH who is immunosuppressed.
I’ve no shifts until next week (am on a zero hours contract) but need to decide what to do.
WWYD? I’ll be honest, I’m scared.

Not every nurse gets PPE. Most of us are working without it- only certain areas qualify to wear it. You can refuse to see anyone with a cough unless you have a mask- maybe ask you manager?

No gloves, masks or aprons to spare for mental health nurses. We’re a different trust and literally cannot access these. Plus I wouldn’t know if someone had a cough until I was in a 1.5 x 1.5m room with them.
