How do I handle midwife appointments?

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and myself and DP are self-isolating, with a rare supermarket trip for DP which he is extremely cautious about. I've had a really tough pregnancy and am suffering with PGP, which has limited my mobility hugely, carpal tunnel in both wrists, and general sickness and nausea. The last thing I need is a virus as I feel so run down (obviously no one needs it I know)!

I've got to book a midwife appointment this week which will be at the local hospital, then I have a further appointment for my anti-D injection. Obviously, antenatal appointments are necessary and if I don't attend them I'm putting myself at risk of undetected pre-eclampsia, GD or any other complications.

But given the current situation the hospital is the last place I want to be!

I was thinking to go in wearing gloves and a mask and take the obvious hand washing and sanitising precautions. I was also thinking of asking if they could call me when they're ready to see me and I'll wait outside in the car until they do, rather than the waiting rooms.

What are you doing/what would you do?

You could ask them what they advise, as medical professionals.

Sorry but I doubt your midwife has time for that. It’s a 15 minute slot per woman. If she has to spend 5 minutes of that calling you and waiting for you to come in, it’s less time to actually perform your antenatal checks and answer questions.

They will have taken out every other chair (at least) in the waiting room and will be cancelling any unnecessary appointments.

@Bienentrinkwasser just spoken to them and waiting for their call in the car is exactly what they're doing for everyone, so that's positive.

I think I'll just go in and be super cautious, all I can do!
