Pretty sure son (9) has broken his big toe. He has broken it several times before and each time he has had an xray but only once needed a referral as only refer to fracture clinic if it's broken on the growth plate.

Would you take him to minor injuries (it's in sperate town to A & E) or not risk it and hope it's not broken on growth plate.

You've got to get a bit toe seen to first. Why don't you ring ahead and ask what they would prefer you to do?

Thanks, I can't ring as want to be there before they open so I'm first in the queue to a. Limit how long I'm there and b. Get to work as apparently I'm essential.

Big toes are important for balance, you really need to get it checked. Purely out of curiosity how come he’s broken it so often in his short life?

Isadora2007 · 23/03/2020 07:51

It needs checked.

Thank you both, it was scary, went to the local MIU unit and we were queuing inside (2m apart) and then someone came in and ordered us outside and closed the unit. Went to the next local one and it was so quiet, no one in the hospital at all (usually very busy) had a phone triage appointment and then we were seen and x rayed (bad break on the growth plate however they don't think anything will be done to it due to the virus)
Purplewithred they've checked he doesn't have a brittle bone disorder and just think he is clumsy/daft I won't lie that I was relieved that the last three breaks were when he was at school.
