Anyone think CV is in their family?

Is anyone awake? My ds (9) is coughing and coughing and has a fever. I'm pretty sure this must be CV to be honest. I wondered if anyone else thinks they have/had it and could share what they're going through. I guess all we hear are the worst case scenarios on the news and it's easy to get so anxious about it.

I haven't experienced it, but I realise how you must be feeling at this time FlowersFlowers..

Bookworm83 · 23/03/2020 04:40

Yes I'm pretty sure I have it.

I have had a fever since Tuesday night. I never get fever! No other symptoms, just that, but it's very consistent, sitting at 38 degrees despite me taking paracetamol every four hours. It's too random to be anything else than covid.

I know it isn't flu because I was vaccinated against that a few months back.

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and really concerned. I know it shouldn't be much of a threat to the baby, but it will affect my birth experience in many ways, and I already suffer from anxiety as it is.

Even if it's not covid, the fever alone is not a good sign in pregnancy but no one will test me for anything, I'm just told to sit at home and wait it out.

FredaFrogspawn · 23/03/2020 04:46

Not having testing is so difficult. It needs to be rolled out to nhs staff and other key workers first so they know where they are. The rest to show if you’ve had it and recovered will be so useful when that’s rolled out.

I think I had it but no idea if I did.

Hope you feel better soon Bookworm and of course OPs daughter.

HappyAsASandboy · 23/03/2020 04:49

Yes, pretty sure DD who is 9 has it Sad She has the right symptoms.

She's feeling pretty rough, though nothing that can't be managed at home.

We're now all staying completely in isolation for 14 days, which lands us neatly on my planned C Section date! I'm a bit concerned as to how that will pan out, particularly if it takes a while for us to all develop symptoms.

Illness wise, so far DD has got through the fever but feels achy, sore, and fed up of the unstoppable cough.

LaneBoy · 23/03/2020 05:07

Not sure. DD got what I thought was tonsillitis (she mentioned a couple of friends at school having it) - had epic body aches and fever too and no appetite etc. Then DS got it a couple of days later. Both of them now coughing. DS is still quite unwell with it. Keeps saying it feels like he “needs to cough hard, but can’t”.

I got it a few days after DS and holy shit I have not felt this unwell for years. I spent a few days sleeping on and off, only managing to stand up when I needed to get to the loo, stabbing pains in my throat, much of the more recently coming to light symptoms that I’ve read about such as complete loss of taste/appetite, sore eyes etc have been an issue. I have fibromyalgia and ME, and this is still the worst I’ve felt for years - I do get flu like aches from simple colds but this has been extreme. HR at 95-100 for the last few days, my usual is 70-75. I did run a slight fever but not like the kids did - however I tend to be on the cool side anyway so this was still a big increase in my body temp if that makes sense. I’ve not coughed a vast amount but I’ve read it can take a few days.

TBH I am almost more scared that this isn’t cv - whatever it is it’s completely wiped me out, I’m unlikely to be ok for a good few weeks now, so what if I get CV on top and I can’t fight it off either? Same with the kids.

DSD (21) lives with us and has dry coughed a bit over the last couple of weeks, and DH too. He’s the anomaly I think, he’s 52, I would expect him to be suffering more but maybe I’m being too simplistic? He’s always seeming like he’s coming down with something but then it doesn’t usually develop, I guess in some ways his immune system is decent.

Problem is reading so many things about people who think they have it, they could all be wrong! The lack of testing is scary. But it does seem to present in a huge range of ways which must be contributing to the spread I guess - as it’s so easy to write some presentations off as just a cold etc

Biensur40 · 23/03/2020 05:35

I am reading this as wondering the same. Started with a sore throat and a slight runny nose which I put down to the sniffles. Now have cough every now and again, itchy eyes and feel slightly out of breath. Mild so far. I am a teacher and am on rota to go in later in week but don't think I should now. Is it worth ringing 111 to see if they will test? Hooe everyone is okish. Worrying times.

MakeItRain · 23/03/2020 05:38

I think the lack of testing is crazy too. My ds now downstairs on the sofa with the back door letting freezing air in. Still coughing. A friend's advice is that even if we all get it in our house, we keep fairly separate from each other. Get out in the sun as much as poss (garden obviously not out locally). Thanks for all your replies.

No. But my mum works for the NHS in a major UK hospital. She's scared to go into work and I'm scared for her.

Biensur40 · 23/03/2020 05:42

Hope your son feels better soon. What day of illness is he on?
I am going to try and ring 111 today and see if there is testing available for key workers yet simply because I don't want to let school down if I don't need to. At least I can say I tried then.

onedream · 23/03/2020 05:52

@Bookworm83
Did you speak to anyone about this? I mean midwife or other health professional?
There was a doctor gynaecologist on channel 4 news last week and she said anyone with symptoms and heavily pregnant should call labour ward.

Hope you feel better soon x

Biensur40 · 23/03/2020 05:56

@Bookworm83 I would definitely try to talk to a medical professional if you can. Hopefully, it will put your mind at rest. This is such a horrible situation for everyone. Take care

Bookworm83 · 23/03/2020 06:00

@onedream @biensur40
Yes I spoke to maternity triage at my hospital.
I was told to self isolate, keep taking paracetamol, drink and rest a lot.
They said to only call them again if I notice any changes in baby's movement.
Otherwise they said to call 111 if my symptoms get worse / unmanageable. So really just following the same advice as the general public.

LeSquigh · 23/03/2020 06:15

@Bookworm83

You do realise that you can still get flu even though you have been vaccinated? There are a number of strains of flu every year and you are vaccinated against just one of them. It doesn't sound like you have flu (because if you did you wouldn't be typing on here) but just wanted to make you aware that you are not immune.

Bookworm83 · 23/03/2020 06:18

@lesquigh I had no idea actually 😳
But considering my only symptom is high temperature, I don't think it's any type of flu anyway.

mathanxiety · 23/03/2020 06:19

@Bookworm83

You must call your midwife and the labour ward where you are to deliver again.

Don't downplay this to them. Almost a week of paracetamol is not good.

thatblackbag · 23/03/2020 06:27

I have two family members with definite symptoms but not in my household. I'm pretty worried about my BIL as he lives alone and is very unwell, I'm not sure who will get food to him if he runs out etc as he lives the other end of the country.

Tonkerbea · 23/03/2020 06:30

DS has a bad cough, fluctuating mild raised temp and headaches- it's so frustrating not knowing if it's Covid-19!

MakeItRain · 23/03/2020 08:03

So my ds is pretty poorly today. Temp keeps spiking. Coughing a little less. But feeling very miserable. He started with a cough every 15 mins or so and no fever on Saturday which ramped up to constant coughing and fever in the night. It's worrying but keeping in touch with friends is helping. I'm a single mum though so feel a little alone with it.
