Hi everyone I am just looking for some advice I am aware that there is no right or wrong answer but would like to know what others would do in a similar situation.

I am currently 18 weeks pregnant and am therefore trying to follow the government advice of self isolating however, my husband works as a radiographer for the NHS and therefore is coming into contact with people everyday with suspected and confirmed cases of covid 19 unfortunately due to the NHS been so stretched the reality of wearing correct protective equipment is dropping by the day and now the staff are provided with basic surgecial masks due to running out of better quality more effective masks therefore it is probably not if but when my husband will also get the virus.

My question is if it was you would you stay at home and continue trying your hardest to keep everything clean, using hand sanatizer etc. Or remove myself from the situation and go and stay with my parents for the 12 weeks recommended. We also have a thirteen month old son so unfortunately it would mean that my husband would not able to see our baby for some time.

Sorry if that was long winded I appreciated some will think this is an over reaction but all I want is the best for my son and unborn baby.

Thank you

It’s always going to be a difficult choice
If it helps the RCOG have just issued guidance saying that pregnant health care workers can continue with patient facing work up to 28 weeks, just avoiding covid patients. I’d stay at home in your shoes.

Try not to panic, are you on the extremely vulnerable list?

What do we mean by extremely vulnerable?
People falling into this extremely vulnerable group include:

Solid organ transplant recipients
People with specific cancers:
people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radical radiotherapy for lung cancer
people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment
people having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer
people having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors
people who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs
People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD.
People with rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as SCID, homozygous sickle cell).
People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection.
Women who are pregnant with significant heart disease, congenital or acquired.

If not, you should be significantly reducing contact and socially distancing.

I'm not pregnant, but my DP is a paramedic so is very much front line. We have a 5 month old.

I would try and stay together if you possibly can. This could go on for a long time.

Practically, we have a wash basket specially for his uniform. The minute he comes home, his clothes go straight in the basket and he has a wash before he touches anything (especially our son!). His clothes are washed separately to everyone else's.
