A friend has just shared a post "From an NHS nurse" that says as children are often asymptomatic teachers and childcare workers should do the following (or words to this effect) when they get in from work- Strip off as soon as you step inside your house and place all clothing items in a black bag, ball it up and carry it carefully to the washing machine, make sure you do not touch any door handles or surfaces on your way through, you should leave the washing machine door open in the morning so that you can put the bag in the machine and empty it whilst it is inside the washing machine, throw the bag away. Go and take a shower, wash thoroughly including washing hair, out on clean clothes now you can go and put the washing machine on.

Is it just me or does this seem extreme?

I work 5 days and don't have enough uniforms (well trousers that go with my tunics) to do that, let alone the inclination. Not allowed scrubs.

I'm going to do it. Teaching tomorrow (babysitting).

IllustriousToad · 22/03/2020 21:33

My partner is a doctor and doing that every time he comes in... he is treating covid patients though, and I'm high risk Confused

I’ll be doing it too - primary teacher.

Comefromaway · 22/03/2020 21:35

Dh isa teacher in FE so isn’t in now but he couldn’t do that as we don’t have a washing machine at the moment (just moved house).

This is part of the standard advice in Spain. It may not be feasible to do everyday for everyone (such as not enough uniform above) but as much as possible I would do it. Especially as - if you don't need to go out to work every day - you should be going out around once a week to do your shopping.

Also, remember that it's not actually possible to eradicate the virus with these measures, but we can and must try to reduce the spread as much as possible.

My priority would also be wiping all wipable items of shopping with antibac / soap & water before putting away.

Hmm, fair enough, it would be easy enough for me to do to be fair as we are on a rota so wouldn't be every day but DH works in a job where social distancing is impossible but like a PP, doesn't have enough uniform to do this
