Coronavirus in children

My DS (6) has coughed 6 seperate times today. He is also a bit sneezy and has a runny nose. No temperature. Could this be coronavirus? I know I sound very paranoid but I have a health condition that could make it very bad for me, and so does his younger brother. Pointless worrying because if he does have it we will all get it. But still I’m trying to look for some reassurance.

The main early symptoms are a dry cough Or a temperature.

Experts believe young and healthy children are usually asymptomatic.

Gogoberry · 22/03/2020 19:42

So he has a bit of a cough, but not much. And no temperature. I guess if children are asymptotic he could still have it?
For DS2, he is very young but has been in and out of hospital most of his life with respiratory and other problems. Would he be ok? Or would he get more symptoms? And if I get ill and no longer able to look after them who does? We don’t have other family who would step in. It’s just us.

My dc3 aged 4 started coughing yesterday, today its been pretty relentless, coupled with a runny nose and some sneezing, no temp till tonight and then only a very very small temp which has completly gone with a half dose of calpol. Hes charged round the garden all day though, happy as anything. Obviously we are isolating, the only contact hes had in the last week is at school.

Sosososotired · 22/03/2020 20:00

Teenage son has sore throat, cough and lethargy. No temperature. Who knows if he has it! Without testing we are all guessing!

Gogoberry · 22/03/2020 20:03

I know it’s all guess work. I’m so scared though. I’ve just had treatment for lymphoma so this could be catastrophic for me, never mind poor DS2. He has been off school for over a week because I was trying to keep it away from us all.

I think runny nose is a sign that’s it’s NOT CV.

GoodStuffAnnie · 22/03/2020 20:07

You poor thing gogo. So stressful.

Trying to be positive it’s more likely he hasn’t got it than got it. I know the numbers are high for a whole population they are still quite low. Have you seen this

I was trying to look for a comparison chart but no reputable sources seem to be coming up.

Have you any Puritan? Those are also allergy symptoms and we are in hay fever season.

The worry/anxiety is stressful just now Sad

Gogoberry · 22/03/2020 20:27

There are quite a few cases in my city. I’m praying to all kinds of Gods he doesn’t have it. I can hardly isolate a 6 year old.

Laaf80 didn’t think of hay fever! He hasn’t had it before (I don’t think) but might give him some pirotin tomorrow and see if it helps. We were outside a lot yesterday, so it could be that.

@Gogoberry "I can hardly isolate a 6 year old"
On the contrary. You must isolate your 6 year old. Do you not get this?

Gogoberry · 22/03/2020 20:49

I mean I can’t isolate him from me toybox as a family we have been isolating for over a week. But he is a scared 6 year out who has been through so much shit this year already.

It doesn't sound like CV to me. The symptoms are a high temperature or a new continuous cough. I wouldn't say coughing 6 times in one day is continuous.

Gogoberry · 22/03/2020 21:49

Thanks user1471457757 I hope it’s not and I hope tomorrow he doesn’t have a cough at all. He hasn’t coughed since going to bed so I’m hoping that is a good sign.

So far today there has been no coughing, only a runny nose. Fingers and toes and everything else crossed it was a false alarm.
